ANALYSIS/SYNOPSIS:

- believes that his fresh ideas and connection with Jerry Richardson helped get him the job.

- loves getting the job because it's a young team and a great community

- very big on hard work, discipline, structure and work ethic

- repeated that he wants the defense to be aggressive, attacking and versatile

- likes DeAngelo Williams and looks forward to working with him

- says the offensive line is the key to everything in the run or the pass game

- emphasizes how special teams can get you "hidden yardage"

- happy to get Brian Murphy; said one of the connections is that Murphy was on Norv Turner's "short list" for ST coach (it was known some time ago that Steve Crosby would be out)

- stated that Rich Bisaccia, the former Bucs ST guy who is now with the Chargers, was the other guy on the Panthers short list as well (good choice)

- taking longer than he wanted to get his staff in place

- eager to get to work with the players

- sounds like his wife and family will still be on the West Coast for a while; he's obviously anxious to get them moved

Going a little deeper, one of the biggest things I liked in this clip is that he discussed the notion of whether you run to set up the pass or pass to set up the run. In Rivera's mind, that's not a valid debate. You have to be able to do both effectively or your offense just isn't going to work.

All in all, more to be happy about :)

Totally rapes Fox' old logic

can't wait to start seeing results of Rivera at the helm. gotta say I feel really good about him to this point.

there is always the question "what is he actually going to do for our team".. but I can't point to any other coach and tell anyone that I feel as confident about them as I do about Ron Rivera..

yes, he has to prove he is legit... and in 2-3 years, perhaps this is a huge mistake, but damn, right now, that doesn't seem possible...

there are certain things I am looking for in the next coaching staff, and he has nailed every aspect...

except of course, he's most likely a racist and doesn't want to see a black QB under center....

    • Not much to tear down on the roster. A few contracts to dump but really pretty bare bones due to years of poor management and not being able to get more expensive people to come into their mess.  100% on holdovers. The problem is the Teppers will be a part of the hiring at some level, which they have failed at in every way. I can't see a way around that hurdle unless it's pure luck at this point.
    • Like I said, it doesn't matter how far he can or cannot throw the ball. Most (95%) of the game is played within 20 yards of the line of scrimmage anyway. Having a big arm is plus for sure but not completely necessary. Height and  weight is up there and I would argue more important than arm strength. Accuracy and being able to function under pressure is priority number 1 if you ask me.
    • A serious mid-week question:  If you were forced to pick who'll win straight-up for this week's game, who's your choice?  Carolina or Atlanta? Pros for Carolina:  finally, a home game. Carrying over some of the excitement from last week's last 5 minutes. Division rival, chip on our shoulder to prove we can win, etc.    Cons: some key injuries, XL.  And, well.... (waves hands around) all that other stuff Pros for Atlanta: uh, they won last week? (reason for the question: weekly office football pool has the matchup on the sheet and I'm debating which to go with)
