Weslye Saunders Supplemental Draft?

What would you give up for him?

Because former University of South Carolina tight end Weslye Saunders has been declared ineligible for the NFL draft due to a paperwork issue, he's also ineligible to participate in the NFL scouting combine.

League sources with knowledge of the situation have informed National Football Post that Saunders had been invited to the combine, but now that invitation has been rescinded.

What happened?

According to sources, Saunders and his representatives didn't petition the NFL to be included in the draft eligible list to be given special eligibility. Saunders was a senior, but didn't play for the Gamecocks last season due to an NCAA inquiry and violations of team rules.

Not sure if they can have a supplemental draft until a new CBA is signed. The only reason we can have a regular draft is because it was written into the prior agreement to have it even if the CBA expires. If the supplemental wasn't included in that agreement, it can't happen until a new one is implemented.

Definitely a supplemental draft option. I saw Saunders being to TE in the draft what Pike and Gettis were to QB and WR, only hopefully more like Gettis in terms of success and promise >.>

I expect at least two DTs and two TEs in this draft tbh. I wouldn't be surprised with one TE, but who knows.

He is a talent for sure..Kind a bigger Jared Cook Jr. for the Titans who came on late last season. He is a basketball player and has natural athletic ability. If its a low round pick for him its a no brainier.

I would have been excited to see the Panthers draft him in the 4th..but the alarm is now..is this guy just a total idiot...if not then hes a keeper.

    • I’m not mad at Moehrig.  He’s great at what he does.  And to be honest, a lot of my favorite safeties in our history were box-first type guys - Maxie, Minter, Mike Mitchell, Chris Harris…  they’re first and foremost objective was to put people on their backs and coverage was secondary.  There is a place for that.  There is a definite need for that.  Physical guys that set the tone.  So cool, we have that in Moerhig. But what we have lacked for the vast majority of our existence is a true free safety that cleans everything up on the back end.  Sometimes they come in the form of a JOAT, like Peppers.  I think he would be a fantastic compliment to Moehrig’s strengths and weaknesses.  If we don’t go after him, I certainly hope Ransom is given the chance to grow and develop in real-time with real game reps, because what he did in preseason was very encouraging to see.  I hope he can grow into that roaming center fielder with a little bit of an edge to him as an enforcer as well.  He has the tools.  In the meantime, adding Peppers would only help.
    • Option 1 is most likely. Even if he kills it this year, it wouldn't be prudent to rush an extension for one good season. If you have to pay him more because you waited another year, then he earned it. And that's OK. Adjust accordingly.
    • Cam had the advantage of having a very strong supporting cast his first 2 seasons. Things definitely worsened later on. But those first couple of years can kill a QB. Some never truly recover. If they do recover it takes years, and usually with another team. Trying to learn to be an NFL QB with TEs and WRs that are trying to learn too is a recipe for disaster. Imagine if Cam's rookie season was that 2014 offensive squad. Changes everything! I said it when they moved up in 2023. This team wasn't ready for a rookie QB yet. Anyone that thinks Stroud would have been a lot better is delusional. The correct formula is to build a strong team and then you go get your rookie QB. Not the other way around. BY is going into his third season and we're still trying to put a respectable group of WRs and TEs around him. I think they have the right personnel now. Unfortunately they haven't developed into actual NFL players yet.  This season we should expect consistency and aggressiveness from BY. Mostly for his development but also to DEVELOP his young cast.
