Johnson and Anderson aren't close to being worth the value of the tag so the two of them are automaticly off the list.

Kalil is the most important player to be signed but he isn't worth LT money.

Williams can probably get close to what the tag is on the open market but investing that much into a player that's only played 18 games in the last two seasons is very risky.

So, if the Panthers are confident they can sign Kalil, then use the tag on Williams and hope to trade him. $8 mill for one year of Williams' service isn't that outragous.

However, if you're not confident about getting a deal done with Kalil, you tag him first and let Williams walk.

Only guys in my opinion that would get a franchise tag are Kalil, Johnson, and Williams. Here are the 2010 franchise tag values:

OL - $10.7 million

DE - $12.4 million

RB - $8.2 million

Keep in mind these numbers are from 2010 so they'll be slightly higher, but that's the only thing I could find without going and looking up the contracts for the top 5 of each position lol.

I personally think it'll be Williams. I think we all know that Kalil will be getting a long term contract(and will possibly become the highest paid center in the NFL) as soon as a CBA is reached. It COULD be Johnson, because I don't think they'll give him a long term contract after one good season. Wish we knew more about the transition tags and if they'll be available for use after a CBA is reached..

You can't tag Kalil under any circumstances, no way in hell or the end of the world is he worth LT money, neither is Johnson worth top 5 DE money either. Top 10? yea. top 5? hellz no.

I would definitely put the tag on Kalil, if it came down to it. I think he is going to be the anchor of our offensive line for years to come, and I think the center should be valued just as highly as the LT. Look what Jeff Saturday has done for Peyton Manning.

Franchise tag really isn't about the player being worth it, it's just that you want to keep him regardless even if you have to overpay.

It actually should be understood primarily as a negotiating tool.

As often as not, the player that gets tagged doesn't wind up signing the one year deal. It just serves to keep him off the open market long enough for the team to work out the kind of deal that both can agree on.

They had a decision to make like this two years ago but got a deal done with Gross right before the deadline leaving them free to tag Peppers.

Really dependent on the state of each individual negotiation.

Kali and Johnson are the most important/deserving of the tag. Tagging Williams though would be the cheapest.

I think if CJ gives us a hard-line tough negotiation we will tag him. CJ played lights out this year with not too much help from the offense or the interior dline. If Kalil decides to play hardballl we will tag him. So whoever wants to be a richard will be tagged and paid. Pep thought us all that. Dwill is as good as GONE. Deal wit it.
