God I hate those commercials. How about opening a checking account and pay $0 to cash a check? Isn't that a novel ideal?

I guess Wal-Mart wants people to be financially stupid.

I am by no means a wal-mart fan, but some people just don't like banks. Can't say as I completely blame them, and it sounds like a better deal then those check cashing places that some people rely on.

If you don't like banks, why not use a credit union?

Besides many companies insist you have a bank account because they don't pay by check anymore. In truth, I haven't received an actual paper paycheck since the 80's. Thats when the Navy switched to direct deposit. Everything since has been direct deposit. I would hate to have to go through the hassle of getting a payday check cashed on payday. Its so convenient to just to to the atm on payday and the money be in there. And it doesn't cost me anything.

I have a friend who feels as you do that having bank accounts is a bad thing. He actually drives around on paydays paying his bills in cash. Spends 10 bucks a week in gas just paying his bills. Add that to the 3 bucks for getting his check cashed, and its over 50 bucks a month he waste imo. Not to mention all the hassle and time wasted.
