Cam Newton Workout Phenomenal

I don't think anyone is concerned with Cam's physical tools or abilities, beyond him demonstrating his ability to take snaps from under center and perform 3,5 and 7 step drops.

What scouts and teams really want to do is put him on a whiteboard and find out how much he knows about offensive concepts. Does he know how to read defenses, adjust coverages, etc... they'll also want to throw some tape on of him and find out what he was looking at, why he threw it where he did, why he chose to run, etc...

I'll wait til pro day.

Josh Freeman QB rating: Went from 59 in 2009 to 95 this season.

Jimmy Clausen QB rating: 58 in 2010 so..... i take it 1 point is a gargantuan difference?

Brett Farve had like a 0 qb rating his rookie season and played in 2 games...

Also Kyle Orton. Qb rating of 59 his rookie year, has been over 86 since joining the Broncos.

Until he is proven guilty of anything he gets the benefit of the doubt. That the way it works in this country or at least should. So lets can all the accusations until there is evidence to support it. As for what happens if in 6 years they find he did something wrong, who really cares at that point. I seem to think that Reggie Bush is doing fine and still has a Superbowl ring although he turned in his Heisman. Once he makes the pros- what happened in college is ancient history.

I agree. The past is the past and what he does from here on out is what matters. I hope the Panthers take him.

Sorry, I'll take Trent Dilfer's word on it over anyone posting on this board.

C'mon Hurney! Go Newton!!!

Looked great in the pocket without a defense trying to take his head off.

Looked great not having to make progressions with a defense not covering his WR or rushing him.

These workouts are bullshit. We know the guy is a great athlete....we know that he has a strong arm.

These workouts show NOTHING about his ability to read a defense, react under a rush, make his 2nd-3rd-4th progressions in 4 seconds.

This assumes he never made any reads, and all the completions he made were because his receivers were making plays on the ball, and he was just chucking it down the field.

This simply is not true.

Have you even watched a whole Auburn game?

Probably hasn't. Next they'll be pulling out the 'Character concerns'.

Ive been to an Auburn game live and watched multiple auburn games in full. He isn't the best at getting past his first option, or even his second. If that fails its normally bailing out of the pocket or checking down. which isn't necessarily a bad thing. But jimmy clausen has gotten critisized heavily for checking down and bailing.

I see no problem with checking down when needed, but Clausen checks down when there are WR's WIDE open.

Bailing- Have you seen how slow Clausen is?

    • I really appreciate Bill explaining his methodology here because that gives interested parties a chance to try and recreate the results themselves. I believe that it's safe to assume that despite emphasis being placed on WRs that Chuba Hubbard is one of the Panthers' top-5 weapons. Considering targets, yardage, receptions, etc... Adam Thielen and Xavier Legette are also on the list. Jalen Coker's success might have snuck him in there as well. I can't draw a conclusion on who #5 is though. I've narrowed it down to Diontae Johnson, David Moore, Ja'Tavion Sanders, and possibly Rico Dowdle if they're taking into account his production for the Cowboys in 2024.
    • Unfortunately business is business especially when there are large sums of money on the table. Goes the same for player and ownership. Does not make it right either way.  Why would he not want to play for the niners? Closer to home with a team that has a chance of delivering a SB trophy.
    • I don’t know if it’s him bad mouthing his former situation in public or my pettiness but either way I’m not a fan. Dude was on playoff teams getting paid millions to entertain. I’m not better that because and I am better than that. You don’t bad mouth your former employer in public. Esp after getting over paid and two, poor little Russian baby didn’t get the playing spot he wanted. Rod had him exactly where is was supposed to be.  He had a mean lip check and did defend our players. Specifically the devils game around Christmas where is our Haula on his ass. Cool. Thank you. But don’t talk poo about us. Because it make you look like Haula.    “need to get as far away as possible”. fug off. Didn’t see Burnsy bad mouthing and his play dropped off too.    sorry, but Orlov doesn’t get a pass from me. See you twice a year…
