I now 100% endorse Cam Newton for the #1 pick

You can go back through history of the NFL and find can't misses that missed and Not a chance QB become Hall of Famers. Of course the Heath Shuler's and Ryan Leafs being the can't miss and missed badly.

My Hero was a 9th round draft pick for the Pittsburgh Steelers, Listed at 6' 1" and 194lb. Hardly someone you would consider an NFL QB. Before he retired in 1973 he virtually owned just about every NFL record there was. The Great Johnny Unitas was cut by the Steelers and never given a chance until the Colt brought him to Baltimore in 1956. His 1st pass was a Pick 6 but by 1958 he lead the Colts to the Championship in the "Greatest Game Every Played"

My point is, we can sit here and scream bust or superstar but unless you have the balls to pull the plug the only thing we will ever do is "I told you, so".

The guy is talented, he has a gun for an arm. I believe he can be taught the position and is worth taking a shot with him. Like I said in an earlier post. Worst thing happens we convert him to a TE or WR.

The million dollar question is whether a team with many needs can afford to use the #1 overall pick on a guy that you "hope" can be "taught the position".

Not for or against him....just making an observation.

As long as Cam shows that he has the work ethic to learn and execute an NFL offense I'm convinced he can be a good QB. He sure as hell has the physical tools. If our scouting department interviews the hell out of him and determines that he can be our QB then I will fully support picking him with the #1 pick.

His work ethic is something universally applauded by everyone. There is virtually no story of him ever being slack and literally dozens where he demonstrated that working hard and going above and beyond is the norm for him not the exception.

Most of that will be answered at the combine and subsequent interviews when they can test a player's football knowledge. If it only comes down to effort, Cam has demonstrated a willingness to work his butt off to improve.

you don't pick a player that you would have never consider if it weren't for someone else staying in school. I'm against Cam, now with that said if we draft him and he becomes a HoF super bowl winning QB I would be more then willing to eat my shorts but I doubt that would happen.

Well then I guess we will have to skip this draft because up until that decision even our Owner admitted we would draft Luck. Besides I along with a couple other guys on here already were considering Newton over Luck. Luck may be the best pro-ready QB in college but I would argue that Newton still has more upside.

I think Newton will develop into an elite QB in the NFL in 2-3 years while still helping open up the leagues worst offense day 1 due to his athleticism. Our running game would finally get the breathing room it hasn't had since 08 (and even more so considering that wasn't exactly a good year for Jake).

One thing I've always wondered is, as panther fans we're used to seeing our D shut down a play and then surrender a 10-20 yard gain by the mobile QB (first Vick now Freeman). These plays are always categorized as "demoralizing" for a defense.

Knowing that, why aren't we more open to a mobile qb?

Mobility and running aren't the same.

Pat White is a runner, Rodgers is mobile.

Armanti is a runner, Big Ben is mobile.

Vick was/is a runner, is one of a kind.

Josh Cribbs is a runner, Freeman is mobile.

It's just odd that we always tout potential on guys we like but drag up the past on guys we don't

Cam has infinite potential, that's why you draft him

This isn't the NBA. Only the NBA drafts on pure potential. In the NFL you have to have transferable skill as well. If he has that, we will draft him.
