Steelers pick trades

Recommended Posts

To put the question simply: Would you be happy with a Steelers trade that doesn't bring back their first-round pick next year?

A potential trade between us and Pittsburgh is interesting because depending on which draft value chart you use, Pittsburgh has two totally natural trades available to them, but they're very different. The Jimmy Johnson chart says the difference between us at 8 and them at 21 is 600 points, or almost exactly the value of the last pick in the 1st round. That falls in line with how teams tend to discount future picks. 8 for 21 and next year's Pitt 1st is almost exactly equal.

More modern charts (Chase Stuart, Fitz) are much flatter, and 8 for 21 and 83, Pittsburgh's next pick this year, are basically equal.

Now, the second one obviously won't actually happen--the Lions had to include pick 73 just to move from 29 to 24 last year, and Pittsburgh would clearly be making a much bigger jump. But given the flatness of this draft and the lack of blue-chip players at the top, would you accept some mix of 21, 83, and next year's non-first-rounders from Pittsburgh, or would you want Dan Morgan barred from every touching the draft again for accepting anything less than next year's first?

They are lacking a 2nd round pick for 2025 due to the Metcalf trade so I would assume the minimum to even be in any discussion would have to involve their 2026 1st.

Which, TBH, they would be foolish to trade away.

Yeah it would be foolish but they are starting to get worn out on Tomlin... the Rodgers stuff has got ridiculous... if they have a shot at a qb... they are in win now mode. You don't trade for Metcalf and have Rudolph only at qb

Yeah, I don't see how it'd be worth it only involving this year's picks. Not very familiar with the Steelers roster but I guess its possible a player could be involved in a potential trade.

They have hinted Watts and Pickens kn the block but who knows. If watts was included... idk

I’d prefer not to trade with the Steelers even for next year 1st. They are a perennial playoff team no matter what so you’re looking at a lower pick. Indy or Dallas is my dream even if you only get an extra 2nd back.

I'm more interested in an additional 2nd this year but with none it would have to be a first next year. Not a good move for them but I would take that trade this year on the Panthers end.

If they were going to put Tomlin in a position to have to do a trade like that in a QB class like this they should have just fored him and let a new coach take a mulligan of a 1st year and swing for QBs hard next yyear. Already getting involved in the Rogers mess after his last stint shows how desperate and stupid they have already reached there so none of this would be surprising even if it's all dumb.

I haven't seen much in the way of panic moves from them. They are a smart and well run organization, so it often looks alien to us.

Plus they are likely to win the trade very decisively.

If Watts is available that's a huge red flag. That would probably scream that he's washed. He's coming off of the fewest sacks of his career since his rookie season aside from his one injury shortened season and he's on the wrong side of 30 now. These are the types of guys good organizations grade cashing in on the name value. It's confusing to Panthers fans because these are the types of guys the Panthers have historically backed up the Brinks truck to give career achievement contracts vs. "what do we expect moving forward" contracts.

I get that logic but I heard it was bc of uncertainty  at qb and etc. Yet, he is 30... so probably  a 3 year window left. They just drafted olb last year I think.

FWIW, rumors are circulating that Denver is actively looking to trade up for an offensive playmaker to help Bo Nix. #20 & #51 for #8 works out pretty well.

Dropping 12 spots and only netting an extra mid 2nd that we'll probably draft yet another bust with.

    • Per Bill Barnwell  Broncos part ways with a CB on the roster bubble Broncos get: 2026 seventh-round pick Panthers get: CB Damarri Mathis The Broncos have a rare problem among NFL teams: too many cornerbacks. ESPN's Jeff Legwold projects they could move on from Mathis, who was very good as a rookie in 2022 before losing his starting job after the defense's slow start in 2023. He played just 27 defensive snaps after Week 6 that season and 80 more across 10 games in 2024. With the Broncos using their 2025 first-round pick on cornerback Jahdae Barron, they could justify moving on from Mathis, who might not be active on game days even if he sticks around. Mathis' best season came with defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero in Denver, and he hasn't been able to reach those same heights since Evero left for Carolina. The Panthers are set with Jaycee Horn, Mike Jackson and nickel corner Chau Smith-Wade as their three starting corners, but Mathis could push the 28-year-old Jackson and serve as Carolina's primary reserve on the outside. Mathis is owed $3.4 million in 2025, so Denver might essentially buy a draft pick by eating some of that cash, similar to what the Commanders did when they sent running back Brian Robinson Jr. to the 49ers.
    • They can get fuged for a 6th and 7th. Doesn't make sense for us for anything less than a 4th and them paying a majority of his salary.
