Even with Moerig, and adding Bobby Brown I’m still concerned. Wharton is an undersized 3tech who is below average against the run, but is a solid pass rusher. After allowing the most rushing yards (3057) in NFL history I think there’s not underestimating how far away we still are from a solid run defense even with Derrick Brown back.

Wharton and Moehrig both have huge bust factors as free agents IMO.

Praying they hit, especially Moehrig we have nothing at Safety. Bare minimum he needs to be an above average run defender, I’m optimistic. Wharton personally I haven’t watched him enough to have an opinion, but after watching us signing the Shy Tuttles of the world I am a bit concerned.

Having nothing else at safety is the concern. We paid big money to a run support safety. But we have nothing else at safety. Don't be surprised if he ends up playing primarily as a deep safety like Chinn did simply because we have nothing else.

Moerig isn't a positive IMO. Too one dimensional even in that scheme. I like Brown but he is 2 down guy who gets gased so we still need a backup NT because the other options stink IMO. They did what they needed to to address a really bad run D  for improvement but the Moerig signing just felt like a vast overcorrection. That D with Bown back still looks like a liability over the top. 2 good CBs and an old Clowney isn't enough. Wharton, Sly and Jewel all are substandard so the run D won't be top 10 but it should look way improved. Solid? I just don't have that faith in Evero.

Good point, honestly I would be punching the air if we ended up playing him deep. Then again what else can you expect from Evero, dude pigeon holes players into positions rather then actually building a defense around his players strengths.

This is the one pick that I might be most against. I've cooled on Jalon Walker after listening to too many podcasts and have my hopes up for Graham now, but Stewart at 8, or even in the teens after a trade down, and I'm not thrilled.

I need you to sell me on Walker, I get the whole high character and potentially good athlete angle(even though he never tested in the combine or pro day). I see a tweener who got majority of his production as a blitzing LB rather then on the EDGE. Who is undersized and has a tiny wingspan, who will get KILLED in run defense if he plays with his hand in the dirt. Also, why are we assuming he is a Micah Parsons level athlete if he never tested? There are just too many questions, tweener LBS who aren’t majority EDGE bust at a horrendous rate. Just my thoughts, I have been trying to convince myself otherwise. Great person and locker room guy!

Evero wouldn't make it to the end of the year would be my guess. So much has gone into the run defense and I'm way more concerned about the pass defense and pressure on passing downs.

I fully expect them to get some secondary help in the 3rd. I hope they get a wr or TE in the 2nd but I would also like to have Jack Sawyer in the 2nd. He would give us an edge rusher that we missed out on in the 1st. So many choices.

There are options later which is great. It really wouldn't take much to grab the starting FS spot at this point. The only TE I like early is Taylor. I'm still hoping for an Edge early that can actually already passrush but the crowd sure loves them some projects which I'm cold on for now.

    • Moved to Tuesday, not Wednes because of scheduling with Flyers game or something in Philly. But I don't feel good about the Heat.  It has been a great season regardless.  Team just been playing so hard to move up since a bad start and just picked a bad time to get gassed.  It's like almost everyone is shooting cold at the same time even wide open shots.   Maybe atmosphere and playoffs kick off a spark.  I'd rather be in a series than a one and done though. The team has a good foundation to build on regardless of what happens.

    • I'm more of a Hornets fan than I am a Panthers fan, I've watched a ton of this franchise the last 20 years. I post all day on RealGM. Don't get your hopes up, this is setting us up for a 20 point loss to the Heat and a swift end to the season. Spoelstra has always solved us, the Heat have two bigs that we have no answers for, and Jaquez is a certified Hornets killer that always plays us like he has a grudge on us. The Hornets being a top 10 team all year and a top 5 team the last half of the year and then flat out missing the playoffs is incredibly on brand for this crappy, horrendous franchise. I would love to be proven wrong. But I've suffered enough to know this little scheme the team is pulling. We finished 2 games out of 6th and guaranteed playoffs, and we blew two games to the Pacers and Nets earlier in the season, when they weren't trying to win. It's just who we are, Hornets DNA
