Trgo admits he wasn't comfy in Carolina

I wouldn't put it past the panthers and trgo to have made up the fact they offered Trgo a contract. It could all have been contrived to save face for both sides of the table

I proposed that same theory when it happened and pretty much got blasted for it. Still believe it may be the truth...

There are two possibilities: Either Trgo didnt appreciate not being able to do his job completely or that he was in over his head. I dont think it was the latter because the Panthers offered him another contract rather than not.

There are several more possibilities.

He knew that his schemes require players who are dominant at their position and without Peppers it would be back to 2007 with no pressure on the QB.

He realized the defense has gone from the showcase to the weak link under his watch and he has no idea how to fix it.

He got out while the getting was good before he was fired after a third substandard year in a row. He knew that a contract in the NFL for a coach isn't guaranteed money.

He wanted to go to another system where he could actually learn how to be a coordinator and wanted experience in the 3-4.

He was burned out and wanted less responsibility and pressure.

This season should answer all of our questions. If nothing really changes then the HC will.

Really what do you define as change? A different scheme, better coaching or both. I really think we had some of the right schemes but good coaching was lacking IMO.

As for Jake, he hasn't improved since our SB run in 2003. Thats not a good sign if you are a pro athlete. you want to improve each year and if you don't, you're job should be in jeopardy

I was almost certain Moore being dropped to #3 was purely because of his injury? There is no way that he was dropped to #3 simply because of poor competition between him and McCown. On that note, McCown does not deserve to be the #2. The guy couldn't do CRAP when he had Fitzgerald and Boldin, so I don't see why he'd do any better with what the Panthers have.

In fairness, Fitzgerald was only a rookie in 2004 (McCown's last year as a full time starter in Arizona) and did quite well in 2005 (McCown played in 9 games that year and started 6).

Neither was ever a coordinator before until Fox made them so either. His having a guy with extensive experience as a DC will be interesting to watch.

Excellent point.

Both Gantt and Yasinskas have stated that Fox "stepped in" more to the defensive coaching midseason. Yasinskas spins it as meddling. Gantt didn't really spin it at all.

Regardless, it confirms what a lot of people suspected. How you personally spin it likely depends on whether you already have a positive or negative opinion of Fox.

FYI: It's worth reading the article itself rather than just taking Yasinskas spin on it (link).

Quotes of note:

Like many of the other new assistants, Trgovac emphasized the importance of staying flexible enough with the system to highlight players' strengths.

"(Capers) has taken two expansion teams," Trgovac said. "When you do that, you are starting from scratch. He has also been a guy that has gone to places and has done this before, put in a new defense. You always have to have the ability to adapt to what your personnel can do best."

Although it is too early to know which players he will be working with come next fall, Trgovac said effort and fundamentals will be critical to the front's success.

"The number one thing is that they play hard, play their responsibilities," Trgovac said. "We're going to be guys that are very fundamentally sound. I don't think particularly up front that you have to outthink your opponent. You have to outplay your opponent with great fundamentals.

Worth remembering that fundamentals took a rather steep decline during his time as DC.

Found this post at the charlotte newspaper forums Panthers section (can be easily found). Of course there is no way to verify but other posters seem to fully believe it happened.

Last night I was priveleged to be sitting at the head table of the First Baptist North Spartanburg's 14th Annual Wild Game Feast where the guest speaker was Mike Minter. His speach about his conversion to Christianity and his time before and after the Panthers was very inspiring. I was able to get a signed picture of Mike and his book " Driven by purpose the power of a dream " was also on sale.I was able to talk briefly with Mike both before and after dinner and his speach. In his testimonial speach he mentioned that one of his Carolina head coaches told the players that religion was a personal thing and he didn't want it to interfere with their concentration on football. Mike said he and the other Christian players were quite shocked. Allthough he didn't mention him specifically by name, it was not difficult to figure out by the time line he was talking about Seifert. After his speach gave a very candid and brief answer to my question " Do you think Fox will try to control and dominate Meeks the way he did Trgovac"? HIs answer: "Yes"

Rodenhauser wasn't around during that time.

No, but he remained friends with others who were.

The most likely 'ultimate source' would be John Kasay, but I can't rightly claim with any certainty that Kasay said it because Rodenhauser didn't name him.

(FYI: This isn't from a news piece. It's from friends of mine who are acquainted with Rodenhauser.)
