Maybe it’s a hot take but in my opinion after we solidify QB1 we’ll likely be more savvy with the QB2 position like other teams. They’re more doing what they think is best for bryce to take the next step than trying to field the best QB2 talent wise out there.

No one way to do it, it does appear that with the bigger draft picks of the last 5 years…..majority haven’t steered clear of young QBs on the roster being their hopeful guy. Especially past their rookie seasons but even some the biggest ones have had it early.

As far as Andy Dalton, the two young guys he has “mentored”…..have had very rough NFL starts.  Which really ask the why the heck is Dalton here.

He doesn’t really check any box.  No young potential.  Can’t step in and win.  And his mentor track record with Fields and now Bryce is bad

Of course he's not the literal worst. But the problem is the price the team paid and the fact he's nearly 40. If you're going to keep around a low end backup go with a younger cheaper option. I mean as much as we say Jack Plummer is cheeks the guy is making very little by comparison.

Dalton is not making enough money to matter in terms of the cap. His max pay on this deal is in 2026 at a paltry $5.8 mil.

There is no reason to create another problem here. We have enough of them already.

Yeah I can understand wanting a young project QB3, but Dalton being cut is probably on the bottom of the list of priorities…

Getting a better backup is going to be far, far more expensive and likely net fairly middling results.

I have no idea why people bitch about Dalton, he has shown he is a capable backup. There is no backup in the NFL that is going to march in here and start winning games with a bad team in Kyle Allen fashion.

This is a Panthers fan fantasy that is completely illogical.

Agree to disagree.

I am completely over paying terrible football players because they are nice or this or that. At least when Jerry Richardson did it we weren't absolute gutter trash every season.

He's not a capable back up and someone like Winston is literally half the price

Winston is a TO machine. That's precisely why he isn't able to get much in the way of compensation. Million dollar talent but ten cent brain.

He would certainly be entertaining to watch here but he wouldn't do much in the way of winning. Additionally, I don't think Winston is going to be capable of adding much to the QB room for a supposedly developing QB.

If Winston isn't a worthy mentor than Dalton sure as hell isn't either.

People swear they want us to be a winning franchise but maybe we've been downbad too long if this is where we're at.

Why does our 3rd year #1 draft pick need a mentor?   Who is cj stroud back up?  Jayed Daniel's?  Drake maye?

Comfortability is the primary reason. They don't want to hurt Bryce's confidence. But I say if his confidence is that fragile that healthy competition which makes everyone better is enough for them to keep making Andy Dalton rich then Bryce was never going to be the guy anyway.

Give me the QB who sees the competition amongst his peers and uses it to take it to the next level.

Instead we get the guy who comes out looking like a deer in the headlights against the Texans after we've done everything possible to appease him.

Definition of complacency.

Dalton threw 2 pick sixes in one game against the Cardinals in his final season with the Saints.

We are not in a position to be judging other QB's for turnovers.

Yeah, I mean it is a statistical fact and also part of literally a player evaluation. Winston has literally lost dozens of games in his NFL career due to crippling TO's. It's just who he is. Look, it's fun when those insane throws work and he is leading you back from some crazy deficit. But those success are rare. It's why his career GWD count is so low. He's fun but he is fundamentally built to lose games.

If you are talking about a backup QB, you are literally already losing in the first place. That's how you see a backup QB and that's overwhelmingly what they tend to do.

Rookie QB's almost always benefit from veteran QB's. Same as literally any other position in the NFL. Why do you think that you so often hear that from the playera themselves?

As for Bryce NEEDING one, no he sure as poo shouldn't this late in the game. But he also shouldn't have needed this fuging long to get his fuging footwork straightened out either. Yet here we are.

Lol. The Texans are literally one of Bryce's six career NFL wins. WTF are you talking about?

    • There are 98 NBA players that have more points in the paint than our superstar. That isn't a ref problem.
    • I don't really get the Cam parallels. Cam was a monster and even with the refs not giving him his due he still ate. Where it finally had an impact was when they let defenses headhunt him. There are probably some refs that don't like LaMelo for reasons people can determine on their own. But I think most of the noncalls are due to us being a small market team and the league and the refs just giving zero fưcks if we continue to exist. At the end of the day it's up to LaMelo to rise above it all. Nobody is out there trying to take his head off. He needs to add some bulk in the offseason assert himself and get physical in the paint and take any fouls that might come along the way and gradually you will see the tide turn. But nothing is going to change for the better for him or the team if he just continues to limit himself to acrobatic threes from halfcourt. That's just the reality of the situation.
    • Terrence Brown Jr. Scored 19.9 and 3.8 apg for Utah. He had a visit today, Juke Harris had one yesterday. Word is Knox is following Martin to UNC.  Avdalas committed today Jarin committed to returning  Young committed to returning  Adams committed to enrolling  Last I heard Mingo is still committed  So right now the roster is as far as I know.  Mingo, Adams, Avdalas, Young, Knox, Matlekovic, and Stevenson.    Veesar and Juke both have significant offers from UNC.
