DeAngelo Willams and Charles Johnson get RFA Tenders

I think this move has two parts. It openly shows their desire and intention to keep both players around during a period where they are not writing new contracts. Secondly, on the off chance that these RFA's still exist in the same capacity in the new CBA they are already in place on the two players that they wanted them on.

. But if a rogue owner (Al Davis) were to want to try and sign CJ or Dwill before Mar 4th, he could.

There will be no Free Agency until a new CBA is reached. No owner would have the ability to sign a player from another team, UFA or otherwise, until a free agency period was started.

According to Gantt it could extend to ALL of our FA's that fall under the rule.

They'd be able tender players such as quarterback Matt Moore, tight ends Jeff King and Dante Rosario, defensive tackle Derek Landri and linebacker James Anderson and have some hope of retaining them. Even Marshall, a disgruntled RFA a year ago, could be tendered again even though he's not expecting the Panthers to offer him a long-term deal

Not to mention they are still Panthers until then and can't be signed. The misinformation here is staggering.

Panthers general manager Marty Hurney would not comment on the process, but multiple team and league sources said the intent is clear. The Panthers will tag Johnson and Williams and a number of other players before the March 3 deadline to provide themselves some degree of cover until more is known about the economic landscape of the league.

League sources think we will, just to be clear.

and this only matters if there is no CBA in the next month or so...

    • Been here since middle school right when it started around 2003 after the charlotte.com one. Living outside of Carolina it was tough to find good Panthers content, news or analysis. And no one to talk to about it. This place gave me a lot though I don’t often post. In the later days, I particularly Loved PhillyB’s write ups. They were fire. Too bad I go let it go. I appreciate the hell out of @MHS831 @TheSpecialJuan @Jackie Lee and others who have been posting great content and keeping this place worth coming back to. Particularly during the offseason. Appreciate y’all!
    • Nice explanation, but I was just messing with you. Thought that would be obvious. I dont have the energy to keep on trolling. Last season I compared our situation with Bryce as a potential Alex Smith, but what we should be looking for is our version of Mahomes. Some people will read that as one sentence, to me that single sentence is equivalent to a half A4 explanationf of the teams pathway forward.
    • I dont know how much of his salary would come across and how much a trade would cost but I feel Kmet would be the sort of TE Canales and Morgan would like
