Anyone on here with knowledge of insurance policies for players this old?  I know for young players it's common, wouldn't imagine it's as easy to get anything worthwhile towards the end of a career.

$14M bump this year, which is really "only" a $9M bump when you factor the DE franchise tag is $21M.  But even at $30M for this year, he's F'd if he gets seriously hurt this season.

He would've been better off not playing this year, signing with someone next year for what would've easily been $60 to $80 million guaranteed over 2 or 3 years.  He would lose the $16M this year and his guaranteed net would still be $30-$50 million more across the life of the new contract.

Hope he stays healthy.

Buddy, after this season his career earnings will be almost $100 million. I think he's gonna be fine.

I always think back to Lance Briggs when I see these stories.

Feels like every year there's a new saga where it's become too personal, they're too far apart, it's over, etc. And then at the last minute, a miracle happens.

It's why I don't pay much attention to those kinds of things.

Yep, it's all just part of the negotiation.

Definitely think the Bengals owner won the battle, unless there was some kind of "you can't franchise tag me next year clause". Gotta expect the Bengals are going to franchise him next year (if Trey stays healthy) for $36 mill.

I haven't looked into the contract, but if his entire contract this year is guaranteed, I wonder if he could make up injuries like (my hammy doesn't feel great) and manage to miss out on a few games. If I were him, I would be smart and make sure I avoid getting injured; otherwise he is gonna lose out on a ton of money for his next contract.

I am not sure I would call $66 mil in a 2 year span, probably all guaranteed(depends on 2025), that much of a loss.

The truth is, he might or might not have gotten that on the open market. It's hard to say. That is basically(assuming $66 mil) the 6th highest pass rusher AAV.

If he stays healthy both seasons and still plays at a high level, it's a moot point and will end up working well for Trey.

If he has a serious injury this year, he's screwed. He won't get a franchise tag and he will get a small 1 year deal after he recovers

Yeah, he does have the option to hold out but he is betting on himself. Ultimately, yes he could lose a massive sum of money....but he has also MADE a massive sum of money, even by NFL standards.
