The Panthers have an effort problem

A big part of it was fixing the QB position. We found Jake on the trash heap for Fox and Clausen sucked us to Cam for Rivera. If Bryce starts playing like what he was drafted to be a lot of problems will magically seem a lot less dire. Not saying we'll be instantly good but we'll instantly be competitive and more hopeful.

Having to figure out what to do at LT, RT and QB going into 2026 would be a Chernobyl level problem.  That could set this back quite a bit.

You know what would be FAR worse? Paying the wrong guys at those positions. If Icky doesn't improve in pass protection, Bryce doesn't step up, and we have long-term concerns with Moton's knee you're only going to make the situation WAY worse by paying them like what you wish they were.

sounds more like a random Tuesday at Tepper's football organization.

Ikey is a lifelong Panthers fan and talked like he WANTS to be here long term. I am hoping some of that creeps into the negotiations, although I would fully understand if it didn't.

We also have a "punt" option with Ikey using the franchise tag. Not ideal but better than shooting for the moon on another Horn deal before he really earned it.

I dont think anyone posting on this forum or posting a video on youtube has a fraction on an idea of what it takes to get on a roster as an NF player year after year.  Can any of you say what its like to be the top 1.5% of your profession much less the top .4% of your profession that get recognition?

Lack of effort my ass

There are ample examples of former NFL players coaches talking about guys that didn't put in the work and ended up out of the league in short order.

My God, remember JaMarcus Russell as the most famous example?

Of course there are and calling them out one by one is completely appropriate.

Damning a whole squad though

Well, to be fair, there are also plenty of times you see some "business decisions" and/or fairly low intensity play on bad franchises. It is obviously very draining on players to go out there and lose week in and week out.

Good example being the 2010 Panthers(or was it 2001?) where several of our longer tenured players said they saw the FO basically set them up to fail prior to the season starting.

I am sure that creates a different atmosphere. The NFL is still a business, after all.

Oh no doubt you get into the short rows of a season gone bad and yeah dudes start checking out/making business decisions.

This thread and embedded video though seems to suggest that before the season has even started the guys are just cashing checks and are not trying.

Im not buying it and calling it click-bait.

I think calling this out in the preseason is ridiculous. DC himself exercises limited effort in the preseason, so it's a reflection of that, if anything.

As for the team lacking effort, we aren't gonna know that until the bullets are live. If that rears it's head early in the season or we hear comments from the players/coaches calling it out early in the season, I would say the culture is likely already broken out of the gate.

If it crops up after weeks and weeks of losing, I am not terribly worried about it. It's just a reflection of the situation.

There is plenty of time for "sky is falling" takes. Pleeenty of time.

Seems like an organizational thing. Every year we do this. All lackadaisical through camp and preseason but talking confident like we can just flip the switch when the regular season gets here but then the regular season gets here and we find out that we can't just flip a switch and turn it on.

I think it’s something Canales lacks and needs to work on. It’s tone at the top all the suave talk is great but sometimes you need to get on your players and demand excellence even when you don’t want to be there and it doesn’t count

That's one side of Ron we rarely saw on game days but the All or Nothing production showed that side of him. He'd definitely get right in a guys face and tell him to go fug himself. He made a lot of mistakes but he 1000% had the respect of the locker room

Yeah, I think if this is a thing, it's a DC thing.

Rhule amped up the intensity to a comical, absurd and unprofessional level.
