The Panthers have an effort problem

Yeah, that was the classic example of the grass not always being greener. I would kill to have the mediocrity with occasional peaks of excellence we experienced under those guys. It's been quite the ride all the way to the bottom of the NFL.

I agree and would kill to get back to 7-9 each year with every couple years of making the playoffs.

Being that I’ve been a day fan since 95 at Clemson and watched 90% of games. I would say yeah.

You and literally 10s of thousands of others.  Doesnt give you any unique insight.  On the October night in 93 that the NFL announced that Charlotte won I threw my other team gear away.  See?  Doesnt make me special doesnt make you special

I think most of the coaches we have had would have mopped the floor with Tepper. Not sure that is a thing.

Had you said, didn't challenge his authority....I could agree with that.

Nah, our last three head coaches were a bag of wet socks. Fox, Rivera coulda whooped all three in a fight by themselves. Heck Capers probably still can and is waiting for a shot.

Seifert... maybe.

and this is the kind of shitposting @XClown1986 was talking about that adds nothing but is rampant and derailing

No, I disagree. I think that it reaches right to the core of what is happening with the team, the fanbase and then filters down to the Huddle. We're all in here just gnashing our teeth because, well, there ain't much cheering left to do at the moment.

Give us something to believe in and this crowd will be back trading high fives and being all rah rah. Right now, though, I've been on this board for 16 years and I've just watched the fanbase slide into this malaise. It sucks.

and you need to add that layer of "malaise" to every thread?

And what exactly does making a comment about the owner being afraid of the coach add?

I remember the first game in 2021 after a lot of the pandemic restrictions have been lifted.

The first half felt like an entire game. The players seemed to be extremely unfocused and largely uninterested in the second half.

I bet most of these young players brains are fried from Tik Tok, too.

Good luck with attention span and effort.

Facts. During the Fox 7-9 years, we still had hope with great players on this team. A break here or there would mean a great year. The past 7 years under Tepper, minus the Wilks interm playoff failed push, we have had nothing to cheer for. No hope. Burns, Moore, CMC, Luvu, Darnold, Baker, Al traded or let go and piss poor drafting with those picks didn’t work out to replace them.

I want to cheer. I miss those days. But that seems like a pipe dream now.

Okay, I'm not sure what you are getting at here. Are we not allowed to look at the product that has been put on the field and say "That doesn't look good, not good at all."?

And the comment about the owner and picking coaches that aren't intimidating is actually a very pointed statement about potentially why we aren't doing well and, GOING BACK TO THE TOPIC OF THIS THREAD, might very well explain why we have an effort problem. Football is about imposing your will on the other guys, it is about extreme effort, guts, toughness, determination. It is a street fight every game at this level. And, well, we've had some real, well, pussies for the last couple of coaches. I'm still holding out that this one might have something to whip our rather lackluster team into something competitive.

But, I think, I see, that Tepper has chosen analytics guys and confidence builders over hard work and culture guys. And I think it's because those first types make him feel more in charge.

But hey, I was on topic, but you dragged the other thread into here.

the coach was picked by the GM who is a fugging linebacker lmao

And a linebacker who was the management student of the last guy who was GM here. That guy wasn't exactly football Yoda. And Morgan was never the brightest bulb in the bin. Remember how he used to make sure that he took the head off of every rookie LB during the first training camp day? Ended one guy's career. Then, well, Morgan himself had to call it a career because of concussions himself.

We could have done better somewhere out there for a manager choice. We just let the last guy fall on his sword and promoted his caddy.

    • I wanted him to take over the hornets next year. He's a hard ass and I don't know if that works with 18 year olds that are getting paid. He's a good coach though
    • I mean, dude, come on. There is a huge difference between the two in only one word: explosiveness. https://www.nfl.com/prospects/kc-concepcion/3200434f-4e04-6719-61ea-f84c4a062c16     https://www.nfl.com/prospects/corey-brown/32004252-4f35-6941-7d1f-17d92e3e6054 From what I've read, Concepcion is a very explosive, twitchy, dynamic receiver. His problem has been some drops over his career; some he has to own, others have been questionable throws by the QB.  Greg Cosell said that Concepcion may be the most dynamic receiver in the draft. Steve Smith is generally positive. There have been other, perhaps less known, analysts who are more critical, but even they love everything he does before and after the catch. Concepcion gets open!     Is Concepcion perfect? No. But he does have room for growth. He's much better than a nondescript Philly Brown.
    • Here is what I see (and you can determine what it means):  Seems to be a lot of early-round attention at WR and LB.  At WR, the Z-WR (off ball, lined up on TE side, goes in motion a lot.  Can cause mismatches) seems to be the focus.  We really don't have one with Coker or XL.  I have a feeling that Concepcion or Cooper are high on the board.  This tells me they are going to grab a WR early--probably in round 1. Linebacker is most obviously and certainly the second round pick.  Rodgriquez, Hill, or Golday. The fact that there is no contact with a Center is interesting, but there are guards.  Chase Bisontis is an interesting name that stands out.  Carver Willis is a short-armed OT that could be a swing T, G, or....C.  He is very good at run blocking.  OT?  If we are drafting a T early, they sure are keeping it close to the vest.  Visits do not mean interest--it could mean they want a closer look.  Still, No top OTs, No top Centers--what is going on?  This is going to be interesting. Safety--This is interesting because the talk is that Smiith-Wade might move to FS-but that does not explain why the CBs on this list are unimpressive.  The Safeties they have listed are day 2 players, fwiw, and both were 30 visits. Edge--bottom of the roster guys. If I were to guess, based on this, here is what I would wager:   There would be a high probability of a trade back from 19.  Watch a team moving up for bama QB Simpson. Round 1: WR--Concepcion and Cooper both project to late first rounders.  Both are perfect fits for the Z WR (the WR that is not on the line of scrimmage outside the TE)  We don't have that guy right now.   I think we think the offense opens up with a strong Z WR.  MHS Prediction:  Cooper. Round 2:  LB--Hill, Golday, and Rodriguez are second-rounders.  One of them will be a Panther.  If we trade back, we could move up for a S.  MHS Prediction:  Rodriguez. NOTE: Bisontis (C) and McDonald (DT) are wild cards--if either drop in round 2, we take them and move up back into the second for the LB.  If not, we draft the LB and move back up for Haulsy (S) so we have 4 starting-caliber players on days 1 and 2.   Day 3: TE (Delp is my guess), OT (Travis Burke is my guess), CB, and DT.
