Well he is a newer HC and this isn't "his guy" either. In theory, he should have a quicker trigger finger on that. I suspect it might not be completely his decision or at least a complicated one.

I'm not sure anyone knows those dynamics right now.

Tepper has assured everyone that he's "hands off" now. I tend to believe, BUT that doesn't guarantee everything is okay.

I believe it is "hands off" publicly but I believe it is far less so behind closed doors.

He does not strike me as a man who has the ability to not micromanage. His background certainly doesn't suggest it.

I put that very, very, VERY far down the list of issues, TBH.

If we had played 100% of the snaps in the preseason with our starters, I don't think you would see a substantially better result today. If that were the case, by Game 4 this season we should be hitting our stride in theory. Watch that not happen.

It's because this is a bad roster with bad coaches.

I mean, I will say, Andy Dalton looked good in week 3 last year in a similar situation which sadly, realistically is and would be when teams would click if they didnt really put the work in preseason.  I dont think they need to play 100% of the snaps preseason, but they clearly do not look like team that is mentally or physically prepared for NFL football in week 1.  I do put a TON of onus on Bryce, I think if he were the strong leader, hed push Canales to go back out after that pitiful week 2 preseason, but its NOT all on him.  XL not getting 2 feet in is an egregious disgusting mistake and it COMES from lack of preparation.  Quite honestly, skill wise, it looked like Chuba and Nalo put the time in also looked like the Line aside from Corbett did fine, but Dowdle...looked like eh...and the rest of  the skill guys looked very rough.  Renfrow ran decent routes I guess.

All Im saying is IF you are going to play your starters late in the 4th quarter of a meaningless WEEK 1 of the NFL season blowout, when those SAME STARTERS could get injured and lose time the rest of the season EXACTLY like a preseason game just to get them reps, then it makes not only no, but mind numbing amounts of negative sense to say "we wont play them in the preseason cuzz they could get hurt"

I think he is hands off, but if this group doesn’t get their poo together soon, he won’t be which will be worse.

Possible, but unknown.

Honestly, we're still basically just one season removed from him being into everything so it's probably too soon to expect massive turnarounds.

All that said, there's no guarantee Morgan is the right guy to lead the franchise. And if he isn't, hands on or hands off doesn't matter.

See above.

I've said for a while that Tepper basically needs a "king of football" to run the organization while he does nothing but sit back and write checks. Maybe Morgan has that role now, but that's not enough if Morgan isn't up to the task.

You need the right structure AND the right people. If you only have one or the other, it's still not good enough.

I agree but I fear he’s going to go back to his Rhule days.

”Okay tried that and it didn’t work, back to my way”

Practical Answer: Canales might be another Ron Rivera type that's either too nice or too slow to pull the trigger on firings.

I get being patient, and I get wanting to give guys a chance, but when somebody does something HISTORICALLY bad, you just can't afford those things.

Do you really believe Canales has full control over his staff? I highly highly doubt that Tepper isn't the one making that call.

The D wasn’t great. But they were not the reason this game was lost.

ehh, they were definitely half the reason. If our offense was putting up point the Jags could've easily put up considerably more against our D than they did. They moved the ball at will against us and converted 3rd/4th downs with ease. Hell, how many of their scoring drives did they get 1st downs after having 20+ yards to go, sometimes even multiple times in the same drive. D was terrible today, not just "not great."

This was as complete a team loss as you could want.

Special Teams weren't especially bad but they weren't really "special" either.

    • If you're looking for a pat on the back it sounds good in theory until you realize they also had the 2023 Panthers as the top draft class.
    • Going into the 2003 and 2015 seasons we were supposed to be the joke of the league each time. In 2003, John Fox was supposed to still be in rebuild mode. We had a guy named Peppers on the defensive line who was supposed to be pretty good. We had Rodney Peete as our starting QB and a line that was a lot of hope and not much experience. Our new running back was a guy the Redskins, errrr Commanders, had jettisoned for being too old. We had a good kicker and writers thought that was needed because there were going to be more field goals than touch downs. Heck, it looked like they were right up until just before halftime of that first game when we had to yank Rodney Peete and put in some Cajun duded whose name couldn't be pronounced. And Steve Smith? He wasn't Smitty yet. Moose Muhammad, well, he was close to being written off as a bust. You know how that turned out. And then in 2015, we had Cam Newton, who was electrifying to watch but hadn't really won anything yet. There was an offensive line in front of him that looked like it was made in a defunct Swiss cheese factory and our big hope on offense was the great Kelvin Benjamin. And then he got taken out for the year with a knee injury in training camp. Ted "Feet of Lightning, Hands of Stone" Ginn became our default go to guy beside our next best hope, yeah, Devin Funchess. Our defense was pretty good, a scrappy bunch with frikkin' awesome linebacker play and a cornerback who had done more than drank the Kool-Aid, but had snorted the powder. He played like a superhero and became sort of a bat-man during the season. By the Super Bowl he had completely lost his freaking mind, though, and managed to talk his way out of a contract with the team next year. No one was expecting us to win the NFCSouth that season, much less almost go undefeated and into the Super Bowl. So, 2026? Who knows? But our best seasons came when no one had a reason to believe in us, except us.
    • it's not so much this personal vendetta against the Carolina Panthers as it is more about Bryce Young never not once been in the same conversation with the top 15 or even top 20 Qbs in the NFL ..just saying
