Bryce Young Can't Take the Pressure

The Cardinals were trying on the 2nd to last drive, but the pressure (I don't mean pass rush) was much less.

He seems able to be a good QB when he has little to no pressure on him, e.g. last season near the end.  But the start of the season when we're still a competitive team, he really struggles.

Also he needs to just start chucking it up to Tmac the way he used to Thielen.

If he even did that we win this game today, but he poo his pants everytime he felt pressure. The refs tried to give him that one and he couldn’t even get a completion

I’ve been a Bryce defender from the start.

But after this performance I can’t sign off anymore. I was waiting for him to scan the field and throw it to the open guy for 12 straight plays so we can win the game on that final drive.

He did not and we lost the game. I can’t imagine how angry I would be, defense and special teams stepped up to the plate and gave us a chance at the end and we let them down. This win would have been SEASON defining. Now they go home and wonder what it would take to win with Bryce.

I was really hoping after last season he had turned the page.

He does look better than the start of last year, but then again the offense is much improved around him... and he basically gave the game away in the first few minutes.

All he needs is to be down 3 scores and have the D play in g prevent. It's genius if you squint hard enough...

and recover an onside kick, and play Kyler Murray every week (and/or another QB that'll chuck up a gift)

that's the thing, this game wasn't even against a particularly good team, heh

Neither was the last one. Of they played D for another quarter then the stats would have been halted. Garbage time around strikes again and the Cards should be embarrassed regardless of the win

Not a Bryce fan, but the play calling that last drive was disgraceful. We had time to run a no huddle, quick pass game attack to get down the field, similar to the previous drive. Heck, we even had a timeout in our pocket.  Instead, we decided to call long developing deep routes which doesn't cater to Young's strength's. The Cards D-line were pinning their ears back, and we had no answer. That last drive is more on Canales than Young

I saw that too. We were killing them in the middle and with the defense they were running, we could continue to have guys sit in the middle and eat up yards. The penalties were helping us accomplish the same thing though. Plenty of time on the clock. The last 4 play calls were awful.

XL is definitely a worse player, but was taken at the end of the round.  What we traded for Bryce makes this so much worse.  But this thread isn't about Bryce being the biggest bust ever, lol.

I did evaluate Bryce honestly - but when it mattered most, he didn't come through.  That was true last game, it was true at the start of this game, and it was true at the end of this game. He no longer has teh excuse of not having a good WR, T-Mac is clearly incredible. The fact this dude needs perfect play from the people around him t o have any success is also ridiculous.

Let's be honest about his play, not just in a handful of 4th quarter drives with the game seemingly out of reach.

edit: Bryce is arguably the worst starting QB in the league over his career.

No small part of that is his inability to deliver when games actually matter.

One good receiver isn't enough these days. Even when we had Steve Smith, you could only do so much when teams could just take him away and not be scared of anyone else.

Honestly, don't care about his career to date, only where we go from here.

Last season showed promise. This game showed promise. Unfortunately, it's still just promise.

We don't have just 1 good receiver - we have 2. Renfrow looks decent. He's getting open. T-Mac is better than good, IMO. And Sanders was good at finding holes in the middle.

As to the middle... That's great and all, but then we ignore the very clear pattern we're seeing in his play. Will he turn the corner? I doubt it. But maybe he will, he'll get a chance against a division rival soon.

You had a chance to win the game. Had some penalties go our way to keep it alive. And you couldn’t get it done. The QB, coaching and team failed. But in those situations, it really does fall on the QB. The best can March us right down field. He can’t outrun a 39 y/o Calais Campbell
