Look at who they’re interviewing there.

parcels, aikman, Peyton etc. the youngest guy is KOC who’s forty.

The passing game 25, 35, 45 years ago looked less glamorous to be sure but it was far more complex. You didn’t have these packages where you’d make quick checks, every play was its own thing, basically everyone was playing under center etc. once the nfl got out of the dead ball era things became very complex very quickly and they hadnt figured out a way to truncate it. Plus it was nowhere in college or high school. Vertical passing attacks just didn’t exist.

So yeah parcells probably does have that view because that’s what he came up in. Aikman had to learn that when he got to the nfl. Aikman was so lost his rookie season the cowboys almost took Jeff George first overall in 1990.

Today the learning curve is a lot lower. pro concepts today borrow a great deal from the college game now. Tons of air raid stuff, RPO, pistol, etc. even though everything is faster at every position, it’s schematically more simple. The learning curve is nowhere near what it was for even Peyton manning when he came out.

plus, prospects today are basically pro qbs from the time they’re in middle school. Bryce Young for example lived in invite only qb camps since he reached his max height at 12 years old. The whole “they shouldn’t get paid because they get a degree for free” was always just an insincere argument from racist old people, but no one even pretends to make it anymore. Playing qb at a division 1 school is a full time job for years before you even get to campus.

And that is all they do. The days of people excelling in multiple sports to the point there’s pro interest and then just choosing one or the other and succeeding are over. Aikman was drafted by the Mets out of high school and decided to go start as a freshman at Oklahoma.  The exact opposite is happening now, to the point you’ve got guys going to play baseball for a few years, coming back to college football, and playing until they’re like 27.

that’s actually one of the theories about why darnold isn’t better than everyone feels he should be. He only played two years of college football. In highschool he was first team all everything in every sport. Dude has an insane athletic pedigree. But there’s at least four years of highschool invite camps he never got to go to. You can’t just be the most athletic guy in the room anymore.

So obviously the older guys are complaining about how things are done; it’s what offer guys do. But the pro game today is much more accessible for these guys than it was back in their day, and the players are more ready for the transition. Like is anyone defending Anthony Richardson?

What im saying is we know what Bryce young is and we should t wait for waiting’s sake.

Nobody is advocating for being patient with Young. That shipped sailed his first season. Young is what he's ever going to be the day he was drafted. He was a good college qb that isn't suited for the nfl. There have been many who came before him and many more who will come after him that will suffer the same fate.

Oh for sure.

I just wanted to preempt it.

we disagree about nothing these days.

Few observations:

BY is 11th in passing yards and tied for 6th in TDs. Of course there are negatives (like INTs and fumbles), but there is at least still some hope. Some.

Bryce needs to cut down on the dumb turnovers. Accept when the play is lost and just slide, get down, and/or throw the ball away. 3rd year in, he has to figure this out at some point.

Fix the horrible lapses in pass pro. Really need a Center that can communicate protections. Can't give defenders free lanes untouched directly to the QB. Surprised Bryce hasn't been injured yet. As small as he is, he is incredibly durable.

Catch the ball when it hits you in the hands. That's a reasonable expectation for an NFL WR or TE. Renfrow dropped a TD that hit him in both hands and the DB didn't knock it out. That changes the end of the game. Sanders dropped a really good pass from Bryce on the run. The INT later in that drive probably never happens if he catches that pass.

Sit Legette until he's ready - or at least limit his snaps. Forcing those 2 touches (1st and 2nd down) is what really led to the INT on that drive (3rd down). Tremayne is easily an upgrade. Shouldn't be a decision - at all. He's actually holding the offense back at this point.

The run defense is improving, but they need a cover safety. Nick Scott ain't it, and Moehrig isn't good in that area either. Can CSW convert? Can Ramsom replace Nick Scott? ILB is hurting the team. Defensive line and CBs are actually pretty good now. Mike Jack is turning into a steal at the contract he just signed. That PI against MHJ was complete BS. He was looking back for the ball and had his hands in the air. He has as much of a right to a spot as the WR.

Defense is closer than we thought they'd be. Offense needs to clean up a few areas, but they seem to still be figuring out who they are and developing chemistry with the WRs that will actually play. Speaking of that, time to get Horn in the game.

Keep pounding Carolina! Still my team. Although I'm less than an hour from WAS and less than 2 hours from the Ravens. We're not a good team, but at least they were entertaining Sunday.

    • After listening to Morgan's presser twice, I came away with some key beliefs. First of all, I don't think he's a bullshitter. What you see is what you get. When he says something, he means it.  The Teppers really have evolved as owners. Morgan has mentioned how they're easy to work with--a pleasure to work with a few times now. There seems to be a good relationship between all of them (and include Dave Canales on that). We'll see if it lasts. Yes, no one wanted to come to Carolina with the previous management, but that seems to have changed. The team signed arguably the top Edge, LB and OT on the market, two of them on pretty good deals and one on what I'll say is "not a bad one." And, credit Sunshine Dave "Flowers and Cotton Candy" Canales for helping to change the culture. Morgan mentioned getting guys--and I'm paraphrasing--that are not only great football players but great people. Don't look for us to be acquiring any James Pearce types anytime soon, just saying. We'll see if that holds true in the future. Dan Morgan really has set up the Panthers to take the BPA/BAP. He mentioned it at least a couple of times, and he doesn't seem pressured to pinpoint a particular position. He just wants quality players that will help the team. This is how it's going to be (to your joy or dismay, probably for as long as he's here), and personally I love it. Many of us know how Morgan was when he played: aggressive! That's what he's going to be when making acquisitions. He explicitly said it, and emphasized it. All avenues are open (think FA, waivers...the draft)! Personally, as long as it's controlled aggression and not reckless aggression, I love it.  On KP: "Mobility is big in this league."  He basically says if another QB is the BPA while drafting--we're going by our board, people--we're going to add them.        ...
    • Canes are so fascinating. Despite inconsistent defense and poor goalie play they keep winning.
    • I like Morgan's approach but I'll wait for a few winning seasons before giving too much praise.
