The only potential immediate solution I can see is trying to trade a late round pick for someone's backup QB that actually has NFL tools.

NFL defenses have thoroughly figured out how to take away the things Bryce actually does well. If I'm an opposing HC I'm telling my DC to do NOT let up and go soft unless we're up big late in the 4th. Start focusing on containment with the pass rush and playing soft zone behind it and you're just giving Bryce a life line. You're giving him all the stuff he actually does well while focusing on taking away the stuff he struggles with. Just keep the pressure on and stick to the game plan, we're not playing a typical NFL QB that might make you pay by burning you deep while you're being aggressive.

I wouldn't waste a late round pick on a 3rd string QB. You can just use that late round pick to get one.

in fairness, Saunders didn't block his guy on the handoff and Bryce didn't sell the quick screen at all.  The one DE you are supposed to fool immediately sprints to attack XL.

I saw that, that wasn't XL's fault for sure. My comment was about his college tape though, he does not run north south at all in these types of plays.

The Saints keep trying to replace Spencer Rattler, if they do that this offseason in the draft, I would be trading for him immediately. Guy has an NFL arm and continuing to develop. Has flashed these first two games this year.

I watched a breakdown on XL recently, maybe it was here, but I’m less critical of him afterwards.  He showed every touch he had against AZ, and most of them were doomed from the start.  And I know it seems easy and convenient, but I think it all starts and ends with Bryce.  Until we have someone who is a threat to throw the ball downfield, guys are gonna keep loading up the box and being super aggressive blitzing and closing out on tackles because they have no consequence for NOT doing so.  And then a lot of the targets he got against AZ weren’t even on target.  Much like with those jump balls Bryce threw to Renfrow, just because you get your hands on it doesn’t mean it’s catchable ball.

Thank you. And I agree!!!

I love how lack of effort can be confused with being upset that your qb just can't get you the damn ball. You see it all the time with receivers.

You are just doing gasses down the field every play for nothing.

To me, that guy is every bit the pro quarterback Bryce is, with a better NFL physique, and a better arm.

If I totaled up the value of the picks we used for Young, which I haven’t, and compare that to whatever the 5th round pick that secured Rattler… sheesh. And we could have all that value playing other positions. ILB cough cough.

Just looking at the 1st and the 2nd from 2023, not the next year number 1  or the next year’s 2nd, and whatever value DJ Moore could be assigned…

One chart has #1 at 3000, number 59 at 310.

Pick 150? 31

Edit: One way to see it is, for just the first two picks we gave up we could spend a pick in the 5th round for 100 Years.

Yeah it's crazy, and why I wanted to draft him even though I knew they never would do that for political reasons in house. Could've really done the Josh Rosen thing and just admitted a mistake after year 1 and at least drafted a backup.

One of my better predictions was thinking Spencer Rattler is going to make an NFL franchise very happy, especially with the low cost of his pick. Arm has always popped off the screen despite his mistake-prone play.

Yeah me too. We should have taken him. He was a much better bet than most of what you find that far down. He might have been 5 stars coming out of high school, I don’t know. Just that he was highly thought of. His college career didn’t get off to a great start and he ended up on a bad team with bad protection. But you could watch him and see what he had.

I don’t see a way he doesn’t have a long career as a #2, at worst.

Agreed. Maybe we get lucky and its a Jake Delhomme 2.0 situation where the Saints move to another QB and we can sign or trade for him because he wants to be a starter. Then we just have a fun gunslinger again which would be a nice change of pace. But I fear he might end up meshing well with Kellen Moore in NO and they might be smart for once and just draft for the roster.

He has no effort out there for one.  Number 2 they have realized he has to be a gimmick guy.  We are always chasing a deebo guy for some reason but our deebo never runs north and south and cant break tackles.

Spencer Rattler sucks. Can we please stop dumpster diving. It has never ended well for us.

    • His physical attributes aren't going to change on a new team so I have no idea how he would pan out elsewhere but I can logically assume those issues he has had with processing which was supposed to be his key selling point before the draft would follow him. He was also supposed to be someone who thrives when the play breaks down but he has been inconsistent at best on that and at times horrific. I think where we each take a fork in the road on the determination of Bryce Young currently is you seem to still be treating him as a rookie and not a third year QB still repeating the same mistakes while showing that he has no arm talent to overcome even the slightest bit of adversity. I've said all along his rookie year and his sophomore season that I would be willing to overlook his interceptions if he was pushing the ball downfield consistently and even if he turned the ball over forcing a pass here and there to keep defenses honest I would accept it. But he has nothing. There is no deep passing game here. He threw the ball 55 times in Arizona which was 30 more times than Kyler Murray and only had a little over 100 more passing yards than him. Legitimately you should read that again and ponder it. That is embarrassingly atrocious. Circumstances here are not ideal with the WR's and OL but we cannot normalize this. It is horrendous. And we need to swallow our pride and begin scouting QB's for the 2026 draft. In the meantime this cannot continue on much longer for the sake of the locker room. And the upcoming schedule isn't going to get any better. If there is a silver lining to any of this we are going to find out just who Dave Canales really is throughout the rest of the season. He isn't getting a pass either.
    • I don't hate it but.....  eeeh it would take acquiring Kaprizov without giving up svech to make rod try Jarvis at 2C. Svechnikov/Aho/Kaprizov  Ehlers/Jarvis/Stankoven
    • Given the fact he declined buku bucks over on the HOF hockey board most don't think they will even get svech..... (not even canes fans) The $$$$ tag plus lack of leverage for Minny could end up seeing him dealt for somthing around what we got for Ranttanen....
