Joe Person: Ickey is expected to be extended, Mays is someone we want to keep long term, TE, LB and OLB are our biggest needs heading into the offseason

It's possible, though probably and only very preliminary terms.

If they do choose to extend him, Dan Graziano's short term / mid-range suggestion would be my preference.

This article also suggests that the Panthers are OK with the Edge situation. That implies that Scourton and Princely are expected to step up in 2026.

I was wrong about this--did not see the OLB mention.  I still think we will target TE Sardiq from Oregon.  TE as a weapon is our biggest weakness on offense, IMO.

Bryce Young absolutely could not demand top QB money. There is no friggin way he'd go into Dan's office asking to be paid like Mahomes. I'm not even worried about that. Thinking 30-35 if they extended him now. But I would not do that now. He'll play next year after thay pick up his 5th year option. He's not delusional.

I think the same thing, but then I see that Dak Prescott makes $60m.  That is crazy.  A reasonable deal could have allowed Jones to keep Parsons, imo.

I also think this is a good year to draft a QB later in the draft to see if he can develop while the Bryce experiment drags on..

Interesting comment, because i think they expected Sanders to become that big play WR-type.  But we have drafted a lot of TEs, but we have yet to make a significance investment in a playmaking TE.  I can say that we have been using some 3 TE sets and Evans and Tremble looked solid as blockers.  Unfortunately, this draft only has one or two who would upgrade our group.  In fact, I might suggest that only Oregon's Sadiq fills that prescription.  I think we could add a free agent.

I expect this would give Bryce another option since he checks down so much--a mid-range target.  I think Sadiq could improve the offense more than a first round WR.

This past draft was stacked with the type of playmaking TE's we have been searching for, ironically. A fair amount of which have been making impacts this season.

Yeah but Dak is a top 10ish QB. Bryce has been a bottom 5 QB. They are not remotely the same. You have to go in there with some kind of justification for what you're demanding. He has the team record for passing, and he's been attributed to a lot of GWDs. But Dan can easily come back with every other stat. He ain't getting that kind of money from any team right now.

And agree a 5th round QB makes sense for development.

I am not sure we'd pass up an edge or LB for a playmaking TE, but this year-the cards could fall that way.  I said "I would not be surprised if..." and then Mr Scot tried to pin me down on it--can't trust him--married a Cowboy fan.  I digress.  I do think Bryce would benefit from him.  I want a #2 WR-with Coker as our Adam Theilen II--but this suggests we are still waiting for the XL light to flicker on.

Evans has been impressive, and Tremble is not getting the credit he deserves as a blocker.

I still want a QB who can be developed as we give Bryce another year.

This isn't nearly the type of class that 2025 was at TE.

That's one thing I have consistently criticized the front office for, taking players too highly in "weak" positional drafts and doing the opposite in "strong" positional drafts.

Graziano said pretty much the same using Jordan Love as an example.

Bryce will get the 5th year option because he probably was always going to.  It's rare top 5 overall QBs don't the option, if not an outright extension, outside of being a complete and utter dumpster fire.  I've conceded the 5th year option argument a while ago, but I'm not budging a damn inch on a long term extension.  He can't get in his feels when hears the outside noise to 'prove himself' only to follow up said redemption game with a 100 yard, 0 TD and 2 INT game.

Listen, I don't have to take this crappy "guilt by association" stuff 😡

For the record though, what I was pointing out was that you were in fact not the first person to mention that name.

We didn't "hear it here first" 😄
