7 Wins And STILL Gonna Finish Last in the Division

Wild how you can be leading the NFC South on Dec. 13, and end up finishing last. The Saints are gonna win out and finish with 7 wins and beat us on the tiebreaker, Falcons will win 3 more and our guaranteed 3 losses bag another last-place finish.

This season was better than I expected for sure, win-wise, and there were some awesome upset wins — but finishing last while the Saints are on the rise and go from 2-10 to passing us in the standings removes a hell of a lot of goodwill I had for this franchise.

I would still bet on the Falcons being last. They seem the clear worst team in a weak division

Saints have such a weak schedule. They literally play college teams from here. Falcons will somehow BS their way to 8 wins and that leaves us P4 as usual in the standings.

It's not going to happen, but if we're not going to make the playoffs, finishing last would be WAY better than finishing in 2nd.

And before someone jumps on me, no, this has nothing to do with improving our draft position, it's solely due to the schedule next year.

Give me a 4th place schedule over a 2nd place, no question about it.  And again, before anyone says it's only a few games that are affected... well, we may end up missing the playoffs by 1 or 2 wins in the end, so yea, I think those 3 games against 4th place finishers instead of 2nd place, could very well make the difference between making or missing the playoffs.

Depends on what 4th place teams you get. Having teams like the Vikings and Bengals be the 4th place teams you have to play isn't much better than the 2nd place alternatives IMO.

Teams improve/get worse year-to-year, so I don't think schedule strength is that big of a deal, especially when injuries like Mahomes tearing his ACL happens. Chiefs will be a 4 win team next year if Mahomes doesn't play in 2026

Yep, it's the reality of pro sports. If you're not gonna make the playoffs you're better off being as bad as possible. All that talk about morale victories and building a winning culture and we just continue to suck year after year. Not sucking enough is what led us to make that desperation trade up for Bryce.

We are 50% of their wins. Im guessing they drop one more too.

    • But that's the point, if the locker room feels that way, then you're going to upset them by still keeping Bryce around and playing him over the Top 10 pick, as opposed to bringing in a vet to start until the rookie is ready. Again, it goes one of 3 ways... 1. Bryce plays well enough to earn an extension 2. Bryce still sucks and we draft his replacement who starts Week 1 with a new QB as his backup 3. Bryce still sucks, we draft his replacement in the 1st, but they start the season backing up a new vet QB who was brought in to be his mentor. With an OUTSIDE chance at a 4th option where Bryce plays well enough to convince the team to let him play out the 5th year option and then make a decision.  Which I can't see it happening, but there is still a non zero chance of that happening I guess. The only way we draft a QB next year and still have Bryce on the roster, is if we're taking someone in the middle rounds hoping to develop them as a long term backup to Bryce.
    • I hear you. But I am not absolving Legette just because he is from my neck of the woods or anything else.  Tge comment was more about the fans uneven application of blame.  I do agree that there is a noticeable disconnect between him and the QB and that he might do better with a more polished and capable delivery man.  Abd don’t feel that they used XL right, or at least how I expected it to look.  And that could be a function of a reticent WB that shies away from that style of attack. I mean it was either him or Canales that pretty much eliminated downfield from the playbook - even while we see guys running free at times. It Could work if they commit to it.  Whoever isn’t committing.
    • Lot of passion there.  Look, if Bryce plays down to the level that we feel the need to draft a QB high, you don’t think the locker room might be ready for anything that helps them win?   There are s lot of angles to this that could come into play depending on what happens this year.
