Cam gets defensive in an interview

The only news story i've seen so far about Cam Newton interviewing with NFL teams was this one. Had you seen others?

Again. Who would leak something like this and for what purpose??? That is what I really want to know. If teams want their interviewees to be forth coming it would behoove them to not run and take all their info to the press.

I know this is conspiracy crap, but I would not be shocked if this is a team in that 5-10 range trying to get him to drop.

Otherwise, why would they leak it. If you think he stinks let someone else take him. But if you want him and he is barely out of your reach what do you do??

Leak unflattering info into the press.

Very legit question and yes ESPN did the right thing reporting it. The more I hear of Newton the less I see him going in the top 10. Right now his character is taking a big hit.

There are media guys there too and they would leak the interview the same reason there's a story about it on ESPN - it's a story that will get ratings.

It needs to come out. People need to get off this kids jock because he has some physical attributes and had one great season. This kid imho is going to cost someone millions and set their franchise back. Just my opinion and the further he goes, the more he does to make me think so.

I really hope it was Carolina or Buffalo that asked that question and he got defensive with.

Why the vitriol on this kid?? He has done nothing to you. Because he may have cheated in school?? Because he bought a stolen laptop??

Why does it need to come out?? Is it really important??

What if the interviewer was an asshole??

Fair critiques are fair but don't just hate on the kid, he isn't the devil. He is a football player. No reason to hate him.

I mean, it's not like there aren't those playing in the NFL with questionable character issues.

...and some of those had 'no' issues at their Pro Days.

...and some of those should be in jail.

I think we need to keep a bit of perspective on 'character' issues.

During the interview/presser on NFL network, one reporter asked Cam about the stolen computer, 4 counts of cheating at UF, and STEALING FROM TEAMMATES' LOCKERS. Cam did not deny any of the comments, only saying that he is focused on the future. I had not heard of the locker thefts before the comment.

I've been slowly acclimating myself to the likelyhood of the Panthers taking Cam. I like him so far, I think he's got amazing potential and could be great for this franchise. I still prefer AJ Green, but have sold myself on the idea of the team taking Cam #1. HOWEVER, the past few days have not been good for him...the "entertainer and icon" business I think was overblown a bit. Michael Jordan was a basketball entertainer and icon and if we got the Michael Jordan of football, I'd be happy. I think that's probably what he was talking about, being a football icon. They're ALL entertainers, that's what sports is. Entertainment. It doesn't provide any tangible service like medicine, police, etc. It's an entertainment career.

The thing I saw today that I didn't like was his 1 on 1 with LaCanfora where he said "statistics make the athlete". That comment makes him either sound ignorant, or sound like him trying to deflect from what makes the FOOTBALL PLAYER (which he might not have as much confidence in judging by the comment). If he really believes he's going to be a great player he doesn't need to focus on what makes the athlete, he needs to focus on what makes the football player.

I'm not saying he's lost all favor in my eyes, but he's taken a bit of a hit.
