Honestly I would have rolled the dice on EE before hiring Mccarthy

Just a bizarre hire from the Steelers. They've always hired young up and coming coaches and now the hire a 62 year old two time retread? They just seem to be rapidly departing from the ways that made them one of the most consistent organizations in the league.

It does appear that way. However, perhaps they have become frustrated and think hiring McCarthy gives them the best chance of success and gives them an offensive minded HC?

It’s short term ism, but his offenses have typically ranked well, like Dallas’ offense between 21-23. His W-L record is similar to John Harbaugh and Mike Tomlin, so I personally don’t see a major issue.

Their problem is going to be their QB spot. Rodgers clearly isn’t a long term solution and they don’t have anyone else on the roster that fits the bill either. They’ll need to find someone in the draft, through trade or FA to ensure they continue to be competitive.

They wanna keep thier no sacking coaches alive. Let the big fella tear the place down and then retire. Then give the keys to a young bloke

Yeah, I could've better understood it if they had a QB to put them in a situation to legitimately expect to win a SB within the next 2-3 years but outside of landing a hail mary in the draft with a guy wildly exceeding expectations or a Jake Delhomme type in FA I just don't see it. So what's the point of hiring a 62 year old HC?

I think they really believe they can compete in a short window with Rodgers and McCarthy is the one guy who he likely would play for. It’s completely delusional.

Yeah and a complete abandonment of the proven successful "Steelers way". Completely abandoning a proven approach to go all in on a washed up QB on the wrong side of 40 is just wild.

McCarthy is by far the most out of left field hire so far. Harbaugh fits the Giants. Stefanski fits the Falcons. Minter fits Ravens. I’m not sure about Saleh but he fits the Titans. McCarthy just doesn’t feel like Steelers. Guess they’re hoping for some old Green Bay magic with Rodgers. Early on he got mentioned for the Titans job and I actually thought that wouldn’t be too bad.

    • Lol. Yeah. First of all, some people here had it in for him because they wanted McConkey. They were down on him from the start. As soon as he falls short they got their knives out. Don’t y’all deny it.   But he has given them ammunition with his miscues, good lord not making that catch in Philedelphia for the TD got him fried.    I think some of that got nasty because Bryce defenders need to place blame elsewhere. Talk down about his weapons. There is just bias against him from different factions. Different quarters.    He isn’t helping himself much either, there was no real redemption on the field. Not of the magnitude he needed to produce. At the same time he has for sure been open and I ha en’t seen them use him the way I thought they were going to. So I don’t know what to think think about it really.    My thing is, we have a HC and OC that has their foundation built on WR coaching. That morphed into QB coaching and whispering, if you will. But these fugers know WRs, supposedly. I don’t know how much they have worked with him. I don’t know how much extra he has put in either. I do suspect Bryce Young has gotten most of their attention and they haven’t put XL as a priority project.    Young needed the attention, I get that. I’d like to see them take him on as a real priority before giving up on him. Where we are now is he got his notice that he isn’t good enough. Need to see if that got through to him, maybe he bears down and focuses.  Or maybe he can’t. I can’t defend his shitty play but I do see flashes of a guy that could be an asset and I would just like the staff to take one good last swing at bringing it out of him before they give up.
    • Just grab all 50 and release the ones who don't work out
    • @MHS831I liked your thinking  historically: ILB, S and TE are positions not heavily emphasized in the draft. If you could sign starters at each of those positions it would leave round one open to BPA which would hopefully be an edge, OT or to contradict myself ILB too
