Should Canalas bring someone else in to call offensive plays?

MORGAN ON PLAY CALLER FOR CANALES

"I think that's really his [Canales'] call," he stated. "I think if he wants to promote somebody into being the play-caller or bring somebody from the outside. We haven't really talked about that. But that is something that I'm sure we'll talk about. We talk about every decision together. If he feels like he needs to add somebody or promote somebody into being the play-caller, then I trust him."

I'd like to believe that. I really would. But I don't see DC turning over control.

He 2x in that short phrasing saying he had no problem bringing in someone from the outside.   I think its happening.  Morgan can make huge strides if he rearranges the qb room and gets a new play caller in here.

He also says he trusts Dave to make the right decision. We've seen it take weeks to recognize the simplest of things like giving the RB with the hot hand the ball. Something this big? Maybe year 5.

I hope so. This 5th year option has been a head scratcher to me so at this point nothing would surprise me.

My translator says something quite a bit different.

I think Canales stays as OC and it ends up getting him fired after the 2026 season.

Not if he wants to keep his job. He risks bringing in someone much better and exposes him for the fraud he is.

He installs his boy Brad.  Then he gets to “save the day when he sucks or claims he made Brad if he is decent.

IF canales were to give up play calling, it would most likely be internally with brad idzik who has no play calling experience whatsoever

now IF canales were to bring an outside candidate to call plays, would they be open to calling plays with canales' playbook? most likely, the outside candidate would like to bring in his own playbook, schemes, verbiage, and terminology. which means Bryce and the rest of the offense would have to somewhat learn a new system

    • Number 9  Carolina Panthers  Bryce Young, the first overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, produced career highs in completion percentage (63.6%), passing yards per game (188.2) and passing touchdowns (23) in 2025. However, those numbers aren't exactly stellar by NFL quarterbacking standards. Even though the Panthers backdoored their way into the postseason in 2025 as NFC South champions with an 8-9 record, Young's performance was up-and-down. He threw for the third-fewest passing yards by a quarterback to make the playoffs in the last 20 seasons, per CBS Sports Research.  FEWEST PASSING YARDS BY QB TO REACH PLAYOFFS, LAST 20 SEASONS (MIN. 16 STARTS) PASSING YARDS PLAYOFF WINS 2012 Christian Ponder (MIN) 2,935 0 2008 Joe Flacco (BAL) 2,971 2 2025 Bryce Young (CAR) 3,011 0 2006 Steve McNair (BAL) 3,050 0 2019 Josh Allen (BUF) 3,089 0 Young did deliver some high highs, like when he threw for a franchise-record 448 yards passing in a Week 11 overtime win at the Atlanta Falcons and when he went toe-to-toe with Stafford in the playoffs in a 34-31 defeat.  Kenny Pickett couldn't win the Cleveland Browns' quarterback competition a year ago, and Will Grier is a career backup.
