Some QBs take several years to become a good starting QB. Sadly this league has no patience, like they did in the past. Aaron Rodgers, Mike Vick never really saw any playing time their rookie years. They sat back and watched a professional QB. Left out Jake Delhomme. Now every once in a while you get a guy in his rookie year that blows poo up like Cam but that is not common.

Don’t forget about the current packers QB.

The flip side is teams see QBs like Stroud, Williams, Maye, Nix and others taking their teams to the playoffs in year 1 or 2, it’s a crap shoot

And Stroud ended the year on a horrible note, with 10-12 turnovers in his last five games.  Just goes to show that unless you have one of the truly elite qb's (and there are maybe 3-4 of those in the entire league, you have to have the right combination of talent around the qb, and the right coaching staff to truly know what you have.

This 100 percent.

No matter how good a QB is coming out of college, they can't make up for the other 52 guys on the roster or the 20 or so coaching staff members. And the higher the pick, the worse situation they are often getting into.

I still contend that we're only now beginning to get a decent groundwork to BEGIN evaluating Bryce and his potential or lack thereof.

this is where I am. I can't say that he is the guy yet. But I also can't say that he isn't. This team is still missing a lot of pieces, and is very young at key positions and coaches.

After he returned from Injury under Wilks, I saw a different QB, we were calling him Cam Darnold

Even before his Minnesota success, I wish we kept him(and Wilks), and think we could have built a special team around him, I even would have preferred him over Stroud

If he wins, he will get to make 3 seperate NFL fanbases wallow in regret watching him raise the Lombardi

You deserve it Sam!!!, now you will be the ghost in everyone else's nightmares

Good lord.

You don’t take a guy at 1:1 that takes 3 or 4 years to show you something.

I am with you. I thought he was close under Wilks. And not the problem.

That year they fuged it all up. There was no need to bring Mayfield in and muddy stuff up like that.  It served neither player. Just counter productive,  Neither got the work they needed.

I mean, if you could tell before he ever took a snap... ammiright?

Reality, my friend, shows a massive history of the best QBs taking time to come up to speed. Those that didn't are very, very rare.

Manning, Rogers, Manning, Young, Montana, Stabler, Bradshaw, Staubach, Favre ... the list of those that took a few years to either get off the bench or make it on the field just goes on and on. The list of those thrown into the fire and just getting burned up is even longer.

There's no magic crystal ball. There's just good coaching, patience and a helluva lot of luck in these picks.

I am familiar with all those players. Whether they took years to develop into their mature versions, they showed what they had early on.

The kid is still a bottom third QB after three seasons. There are many of us who did see that coming and are not surprised.

The cold truth is he elevates no one. He is more dependent on having things built up around him than should be expected from a legit 1.1 player. And we are still in a hole because of that 2023 decision.

    • Jalen is the most productive receiver in the league per routes run. now obviously this is just routes run/total yards and the scheme can play havoc with this calculation but he’s in good company. Puca is number 2.  im not sure that x axis is relevant, but my god Metcalf is just getting mugged.     Per next gen stats Jalen reached the top speed in the playoffs. Newton’s first law of motion stays winning. Coker was also the best looking player on the field against the rams. To me he looks just like a young anquan boldin.  Coker made just over 830k in 2025. He is an Exclusive rights free agent in 2026. This means if the panthers tender him with a one year contract based on the league minimum, he has to play here or nowhere else. He’s not allowed (wink wink) to negotiate with other teams   In 2025 the ERFA was 1.03 million, or 3.1% what Joe person claims Bryce Young is worth annually. three years is the cutoff to become vested in the NFL pension, with higher benefits per year accrued after that. For those that have never heard of a pension, back in the day before boomers “two in the heart, one in the head’d” future generations, your job handled your retirement.  Three years of service also unlocks a whopping five years of health insurance; big deal for a player who still qualifies for his parents coverage. Great system, NFL. Roman gladiators were treated better. Electro, I just became a fan when Bryce got here and I can only name three people on the team. Why does this matter? NFL players don’t make money for very long. 40% never get a second contract. A season ending injury can happen at any moment, especially when your qb is a blimp commander who can’t see over the offensive line. Ickey was in line for a massive payday that he absolutely earned. He lost generational wealth (Chris rock joke here) with that patellar injury and who knows if he’ll ever play the same again. He’s certainly not going to get that new contract which is rough but it’s the way things go. Coker absolutely should not play another down for the Carolina panthers without a new contract. He just had a huge coming out on the national stage and has the numbers and tape to back it up. He's the best wide receiver on the team. Yes I know tet got (a very chintzy) thousand yards but Coker is pound for pound the better player. And that’s saying something because Jalen loves him some orange chicken. If he was a free agent this year he’d be the top WR on the market. Panthers have a lot of (honestly very easy) cap choices to make. For whatever reason they’ve already verbally committed to Bryce’s fifth year and are floating a three year extension. They’ve started hemorrhaging offensive linemen, soul of the team JJ Jansen will need his 1.4 million if he comes back, and of course you gotta lock down Leadership Council stalwart Christian Rozeboom. I would argue that instead of giving the worst qb in the league over the past three years another fuging dime you lock up and reward Jalen Coker. This shows the rest of the team that production is valued, regardless of draft position, and keeps Jalen in the building and team training program. Again, Jalen likes to eat. Will the panthers recognize this? I wish I could say the panthers head coach is good at evaluating wide receivers but….yeah. Also Canales let him clear waivers to begin with. Anyway Jalen should be the top contract priority fug Bryce fug Canales Hail Satan
    • The padded practice restrictions have definitely impacted the game. 14 padded practices during the 18 weeks season and no more than one per week. That's crazy to me. But... As for Legette, he probably is in the best place possible to learn under those restrictions. But drills will only go so far. And it really isn't drills for him. It's knowing all the little intricancies of how to be a WR. That only comes from game experience, in my opinion. Being put in different situations at game speed. Hopefully he puts everything into this offseason. I'm cheering for him. This team needs him.
