Vernon Davis. Man I was strong on him.

And he did nothing really. Until after Singletary ran him off the field like Wilks did Robbie Anderson. It is a pretty famous blown gasket by Singletary, who took a lot of heat from the participation trophy crowd over that.
But I am pretty sure Vernon later said it turned his head around and helped him.

This is what worries me too. Same college production as well. Makes me skiddish because there were times I felt Davis was underwhelming but he was a chain mover.

Best case scenario he shoots up to inside the top 15 after this combine so another stud defensive player falls to #19.

I had that thought too. I would be relieved and yes, push another guy down closer to us. Please.

I just don’t see us having a great reason to elevate a TE to our 1st round pick. Even at 19.

There is no Cam here to sling it down the seam to Olsen. We are not playing that game and I don’t see that changing.

edit: plus we have a couple of pretty good big receivers to work with and a promising young TE on the roster. I say TE by committee can do the job, in this offense.

Man oh man. That 8-9 record without a playoff berth puts at 13 if I recall, ahead of both Atlanta and TB with their 8-9 records, due to our weaker SOS.
We might have been in range to deal for that guy. I hope he doesn’t last to 8. And I hope some AFC team picks him.

You know how much poo I got for this?  It's the same damn record, we just went into the playoffs on a tiebreaker.  Yay, we made the playoffs and got bounced while missing out on a generational draft pick!  Yippe!!!

At the 2026 NFL Combine, the Carolina Panthers, led by GM Dan Morgan, are evaluating a deep draft class with a 600-player board, specifically targeting defensive upgrades and offensive playmakers
. Key reported formal interviews include LB Sonny Styles (Ohio State) and DE Keldric Faulk (Auburn), while also considering safety Caleb Downs and WR KC Concepcion.
AI Reported 2026 Combine Meetings/Visits:
  • LB Sonny Styles (Ohio State): Confirmed formal interview with the Panthers.
  • DE Keldric Faulk (Auburn): Confirmed formal interview with the Panthers.
  • S Caleb Downs (Ohio State): Linked as a high-priority target for defensive improvement.
  • WR KC Concepcion (NC State): Expressed interest in joining the organization, with the team highly aware of him, according to Carolina Panthers.
Draft Focus and Strategy:
  • Defensive Focus: The team is searching for defensive upgrades, particularly a long-term answer at linebacker to continue the legacy of Sam Mills and Luke Kuechly.
  • Draft Board Depth: The Panthers entered the combine with 600 prospects on their board, as stated by GM Dan Morgan.
  • Offensive Needs: Despite having the 2025 Offensive Rookie of the Year in Tetairoa McMillan, they are exploring receivers to boost the passing game.

Downs is a pipe dream, full stop.

Styles, lol, I stopped mocking him weeks ago.

Faulk, I mocked him some early on, but he too I think will be out of range.

KC, MAY be there, but drafting a first round WR again is a bit much.  I wouldn't hate it though.  We need a true slot.

I still have nightmares about Vernon Davis. They beat us in OT his last year of college in probably his best college game. It felt like watching Julio Jones in "that game". Like how in the fug is this big ass TE just streaking down the field wide ass open as if he's faster than all of our DBs??? Then came the Combine and it was like, oh... because he was indeed faster than all our DBs. LOL

For me it would be like getting underwear at Christmas.  Sure you probably need it and it will be extremely useful but there is no wow factor.

Definitely not arguing with you.  Just my .02
