Yep Lloyd is going to a minimum of 20 million per and that’s an absolute disaster of a contract to sign up for

Jags were often taking him off the field on obvious passing downs on 3rd down. Not a lot of games where he plays even 90% of the snaps

A big reason his cover score on PFF is so high because he often would go take the RB in the flats on 1st and 2nd down

If you’re paying a linebacker 20+ mill he sure as hell better be able to cover downfield and based on the Jags deployment of him that doesn’t seem to be the case

Yep ^^^

It's also why if we overpay for 2 vets in Lloyd and Edmunds, I don't know if it really works well together.  Coverage is a big weakness for them both and that's a load of dough where you can get similar value for a bit less.  You also create a legit weak spot for our defense while bringing these guys on to monster deals.  Doesn't make for good team building.

Hope its just 1 if we do what so many reporters are claiming.

Need a coverage/balanced offballer via draft that good in this respect (Allen, Lawson).  It should honestly slide a guy like Rodriguez/Trotter off our board.

I have looked at this Lloyd thing a little sideways since I learned the Jags didn’t pick up the 5th year.

But I haven’t looked at film of him or anything. It doesn’t much matter what I see, they have not listened to me once in 30 years.

I see these little warning signs, as no joke. Someone needs to dig into the why of all that and I can only hope we have.

People will look at his 5 interceptions and come to the conclusion he can cover smh

What’s even more frustrating about it is that there’s never been an offseason with so many good options at linebacker to choose from between the draft and free agency

If we signs Lloyd, the fact that our GM who played LB has to sign the most expensive off ball LB to finally solve the issue is embarrassing. Cant even find a “diamond in the rough” at the position he should know the best.

We don’t know that yet. And, I am hoping a diamond is in the draft, whoever they sign.
To me the idea is get a starting level pro, and draft his sidekick who hopefully will outshine him in year two. That doesn’t mean pay the star though.

This is after he spent a 3rd rounder on Wallace who at this point seems like a lost cause

We don't have deep pockets this year. Morgan is having to sit on the sidelines of the first couple of rounds of free agency before he can dive in and begin competing.

Right now, if it's a name you're really familiar with out there... don't expect us to get them.

A starting level pro at 21 million who was often subbed out on 3rd down? No thanks. That’s something incompetent franchises do. There’s so many other FA LB’s that would give us similar production at a cheaper rate

Okay but I didn’t say anything about 21 million. Lloyd is the people’s choice for one of the top handful of FA targets. A star.
I said starting level. Lots of names with lower prices fit that description

Hes the people’s choice because they YouTube Devin Lloyd and see him making 5 interceptions last season and don’t actually watch the games

Today will be telling.

Don't get me wrong - I hope we land a solid LB, but I just don't want to see over-our-ski shenanigans.  Feel like Tillis is a sound mind in our FO so hope the steadiness of his approach wins out.

So sure, land a guy.  But if we see a headline later today like- "Panthers sign Lloyd to a $22 mil/year", that'll be tough to swallow/scream a bit too much desperation.  Sure, cap is whatever to us fans, but do we really want to be THAT team? Desperately paying an offball LB who doesn't excel in coverage more than Roquan and Fred Warner.  Just seems dicey.

Draft wise, I'm heavy on the CJ Allen train (waiting until post-FA to discuss more); think he's perfect for what we need and in ideal range.  Pair him with Edmunds who you can sign for like $10-12 mil/yr.

I’m just saying. That is where things are with the media and the fan speculation. I pretty much agree with you.

We do have Luke and Morgan that have some knowledge.  I mean, I can’t imagine a world that Dan and Luke haven’t had some conversations. Along with our coaches.
They might surprise us.

I would be with most others, very disillusioned with Morgan if he fugs up the LB decisions.
