Panthers signing Packers LT Rasheed Walker

I’m still really interested in drafting an LT in the first round if the right one is there. Perfect scenario to allow to sit and learn for a bit. That’s how you get a starter for 10-15 years.

The most Panthers draft thing ever would be selecting (wasting) a pick on an OL who they plan to sit for a year.

If you draft a guy in the first round, he better impact the team immediately.

Still weird he signed a 1 year deal as a young decent LT, I'm surprised someone else didn't offer him a longer term deal...

this is a good draft for OT, maybe not next year. He's betting on himself.

If he is that cheap I kindof wish we would have done a 3 or even 2 year deal.  But this is a great signing

I dunno. This contract is one year journeyman tackle money. Kinda makes me think the people that get paid to watch him on a snap by snap basis in the NFL think he’s replacement level, which is fine for what the panthers do on offense. They don’t need elite tackle play for what Bryce can do

I don’t think they will take a tackle in the 1st this year.

That might be a next year option when they have concrete results on Icky and see how Moton does in 2026. Same for Walker I guess. They won’t have any of that next month.

Moton is 31. Might not be a 2027 for him.

From a packers fan

“He's okay.

Packers drafted Jordan Morgan a couple seasons ago to play LT. Injuries across the line have prevented him from actually being able to play there because Morgan can play multiple spots (varying levels of success). Walker is purely a LT.

Between bad lineman contracts last year and Walker having his worst season last year, the market wasn't there so he took a prove-it deal.”

I'm thinking they told Walker that he could play his way into contract as the Panthers starting LT of the future. They need a long term answer and if it's not Ickey then it's audition time. Might as well start with Walker.

    • Does this mean only topics from within the last year or any topics with posts from the last year? i.e. if there are any old threads we feel should be kept around for whatever reasons, would a bump of that thread before the update ensure it's kept around in full or do the posts from more than a year old still disappear?
    • I'm more intrigued at him becoming our future LG. There were some people who thought he was better suited to be a guard in the NFL to begin with.  Then if Freeling ends up being a legit LT, moving Ickey to LG could give us an incredibly strong left side of our OL for years to come. Ickey has only played on the Left side his whole career, both in college and the NFL, so I just wonder if keeping him on the left side, even if shifting inside, would be better than putting him outside on the right side. Just hoping him growing up a Panthers fan will make him want to stay here and move positions than enter FA so he can stay at LT somewhere else, particularly since LT is the big money position on the OL, so he likely can get paid more by someone else to play LT than play LG or RT here for us.
