DL Combine thread

Pretty much as I expected for the Drills for the DT's

Fairley doesn't do anything to hurt himself and runs well

Dareus and Austin perform above what was expected for them and jump up the board some.

I think this solidifies Dareus as the #1 DT in the draft for me.

above what was expected?

austin, maybe.

maybe in the casual fans eyes, dareus performed above what was expected...but to the real scouts (outside the media and fanbase), he did exactly what he's always done.

Gantt just said that most/all of the scouts he is talking with have Dareus rated higher than Fairley

like i posted in other threads...

there is no hype machine for dareus.

this is the norm.

scouts dubbed dareus a top draft prospect since day one at alabama.

the media and fans are just now catching up.

it wouldn't be a surprise to see him leave the combine as the undisputed number 1 draft pick on everyone's board.

people will find that as the draft draws closer, dareus's stock will rise...so to speak.

dareus has always been projected as a top 10 draft pick...and it would be a shock if he fell out of the top 5.

...and this has been the consensus since he came into college.

people who don't think dareus is impressive don't understand the role of his position. he's been playing like a top nfl veteran long before fairley even knew how to abbreviate defensive tackle.

just because you don't see highlight material of him on a consistent basis, doesn't mean he isn't at a certain level.

he is the best in this draft class, and second to only suh in his college career.

what suh excelled in physical ability, dareus makes up for in intelligence.

if carolina passes on dareus with the first pick (i don't see it happening), someone will trade up for him.

he will not fall out of the top 3.

I know he's a great player and have had him rated above Fairley for a while, but since Alabama asked him to do the dirty work and so forth... I really didn't expect him to be that explosive. His split along with Austins were much better then I expected.

    • I mean, in theory Bryce could get over the hump. That aside, you have to know that due to the situation we are going to give him another year. From some perspectives, it just makes sense. I'm not saying that I agree or disagree with it, but it's not like the draft is chock full of franchise QBs. I'm thinking that only one, the consensus top pick, is destined to be the only one in this draft (and some people don't believe in him). All we can do is sure up the room with an FA (Pickett) and take a swing or two and hope (maybe the dawg Pavia). 2027 should bring better options if it comes to that.
    • Let's be honest here. We have one WR on this team that would be in the top 3 of ANY other team. And he was a rookie last year. I love Coker but he is an often injured UDFA. He wouldn't have even gotten a chance on other teams. The rookie injury would have bounced him around the league for the next 5 years until he stopped trying to make a roster. It's a numbers game for most teams and he would have (at best) been on some team's practice squad. But Carolina has been so devoid of talent at the position, that we didn't have much of a choice. Bryce leaves a lot of questions but to say he hasn't elevated anyone isn't true. No WR has left Carolina since he's started and did better on another team. Not one. And there are several to choose from. Coincidence? Maybe. Probably not.
