If he wins out, it will be a pittance to pay him. If it doesn't pan out for him this year, that figure isn't going to break the bank.

It was really the best answer to the question. Now, we just see how it plays out.

If he's the guy, then we're good to go.

If he's not the guy, then we've built a heck of a supporting cast for the next guy and we aren't looking at a $40 a year contract on the books.

Either way, we'll know by December. And honestly, I'm more worried about how things go in early November than I am this.

How do we 'not know' after year 3?

The Cards ditched Rosen in his first off-season. Why has Young had such a long leash?!

So much crying. Tiresome.

All of you should have had enough time to come to terms with the team picking up his 5th year...

And by the same token you have had three years to come to terms with the fact that he mostly sucks but apparently you have been unable to.

He's been the same player for three years. It looks like he's taken baby steps because we're incrementally improved the team around him.

He's still a woefully inadequate QB.

There is a lot to that. A lot.

Another factor is he has two full years in the same system and is more comfortable in it. You can see that.
And that is his (maybe his only) advantage over most competition he might face.Young players in a new system, he is ahead of them.

Your missing a lot of context here... They dropped Rosen because they had the #1 overall pick and drafted Kyler.

The better question is if they would have had the #5 overall pick would they have stuck with Rosen. Given that draft, probably.

Huddlers will be very surprised when Bryce outlasts Dave Canales with the Panthers;

I expect if we have another slow/bad start, we'll fire Canales and give Bryce one last chance following season

Mate they traded him after the first year. They didn't sit on him, let him compete with Murray or have any doubt in their minds that he was awful.

Right.. but their other option to Rosen was the #1 overall QB that was projected really high.

All Im saying is that its easy to move on from a QB when you have the #1 overall pick with a significantly higher projected QB.

If we're still bad enough that Canales gets fired, especially if it's during the season, there is no way we could ever attract any HC worthy of the job if we told them they had to keep Bryce their first year.

That would be 2 coaches he's gotten fired and 4 years of not performing up to par.

I still say replace both of them next offseason.  I like Canales the man and I think he's done an absolutely outstanding job at fixing our locker room issues, as it was really bad before he showed up.  But I just don't see it from him with his in game decision making, I think he's held us back just as much as Bryce has, just in different ways.

Canales was our Dan Campbell, the coach you hire to turn the franchises culture around for the HC after them to inherit and take to the next level.   The difference was he had some elite coordinators early on and really let him focus on his "leader of men" role as opposed to the X's and O's that Canales does himself and it's turned out well for him.

The nice thing about the timing of Bryce's contract at least is that it's going to match up with the 2027 Draft Class. No excuses, he either becomes Rams 2nd half Bryce year long, or we draft his replacement.

Nothing wrong with carrying Bryce on his 5th year expiring and a 1st round rookie waiting in the wings. Let the rookie sit until the trade deadline, deal Bryce to a needy team at the time, profit.
