Yea they crap on Bryce there too, you gotta have thicker skin.  It really isnt a big deal if people dont like Bryce

I'm used to people crapping on the panthers in public spaces. I used to have to defend Cam fugging Newton until I was blue. I come here to talk Panthers and it is literally the same 5 posters you see in this very thread saying the same things, every single day. it's not about having tough skin, it's the constant negativity by the same people. its boring, its annoying, it clogs discussions. this place has really changed and I regret signing back in. I only have like 5 mins a day to spend consuming panthers content and its always the same posters and same crap.

You'd like the panthers subreddit. A ton of 5'3" Bama fans telling others "you don't know ball!" if they don't think 140 passing yards is elite.

we used to have a 6'6 gunslinging battery ram, and he would constantly get dragged through the mud for not being enough, or doing this or that or not diving on a fumble. at the end of the day, it's a people problem. people love to bitch and complain. they'll never be content, they'll never just sit back and root the team on. we had one of the best teams in the NFL on the ropes to move onto the next round of the playoffs while the stadium was alive and well and that wasn't even enough to just enjoy the show.

You can't say how much you appreciated Cam Newton and respect the adversity he overcame and what he meant to this franchise and then turn around and try to compare the ignorance he encountered even after having one of the most prolific rookie seasons at that time to Bryce Young being expected to actually play like a #1 pick and not get laughed out of the room.

A) Im saying I dont think there is a choice - its market rate or bust.

B) I mean how many elite QB's are there in the league? If you dont have one, is the team philosophy to cut and try again? If so, how long of a leash do you give the guy?

We had Baker and Darnold in the building and both are currently better than BY. But we cut them to find someone better, and here we are again, thinking we can find someone better. I dont know man, maybe Im just tired, but at some point good enough is good enough and you need to build around that.

Im not saying BY is 'good enough' but thats what this year is for - but good enough also comes with a massive contract.

Why has he had 4 years to prove he's 'good enough'?

Why are you setting up the strawman that there's only a handful of elite QBs in the NFL?

Well I rubbed some dirt on it and am still here just not optimistic about the future of the QB position.
Even what I had accepted as a ceiling raised to an acceptable level turned out to be a bit of a mirage, upon rewatch of the WC game.  Good plays were there yes, but some pretty bad ones too that the good ones late in the game kind of obscured. I have to downgrade that a little.  Especially after rewatching the last 4 plays. I remember the arguments about he did his job the WRs didn’t but that was really just that last muff by Coker I think it was on our final offensive play.

To the future: I know what my level is for paying him and recommitting, but I don’t have any confidence that the team shares my high bar.

But thanks for the pep talk

Happy to help. We all have our ways of dealing with adversity. This situation is no different. It will eventually work itself out, whether it's a new qb in 2027 or a whole new staff and qb in 2028.

I'm not surprised this context went over your head. Point is, people shat on Cam through his whole career whether it was the towel, the dancing, the fumble, the shoulder, it just goes to show even when you have something great people will complain. You can have all the size and arm power in the world and they will still find something to complain about. Bryce lacks the size and arm strength but doesn't have any of the dumb complaints about towels, dancing, fashion, etc. They have the same amount of super bowl wins, too.

I hated on Bryce when it was edgy in cool. Now it's just getting old. That was 3 years ago and I'm rooting on him to prove the people that still hate on him wrong. You can keep trying to use this somehow, though.

It amazes me still that so many in this fan base will be ok with losing, no moral victories. No "oh the game was exciting" IDGAF if we don't WIN. I'd rather watch boring football and us WIN. People also have the right to complain considering the cost of supporting an NFL franchise these days, nut up Panther fans and stop being cool with being mediocre.

I got faith in DM not to extend micro QB especially with his recent comments but Tepper on the other hand I don't....Tepper still a clown and will def give BY a gigantic extension and keep us in mediocrity for years to come.

I suppose it depends on what you mean as 'elite'. I typically mean someone that can play with lower level pieces around them and still win. There are very few of those.

The extreme of what you are asking for is drafting a QB 1st round every year looking to find the guy. That doesnt work.

We're about as far removed from lower level pieces as you can get. In OL spending we lead the league and are ahead of the next team the Eagles by a cool $11 million.

I think we are speaking past each other here.

Im not calling BY Elite. He's not. What I am saying is that its a complete lottery to draft an elite QB. In BY's draft the Texans forums are all basically saying the same thing we are about giving a contract extension. AR15 might not make a roster this year. Trever Lawrence was supposed to be the best QB prospect ever and is not close. Burrow is good but is he elite? Kyler, Baker? Even in your example above. Hurts is not what I would consider elite either.

My point is that its really hard to get a guy like Josh Allen or Matthew Stafford. So you have to work with what you have.

The majority of people who complained about Cam weren't from Carolina. He was a polarizing figure in the NFL. I liked Cam but he had bad timing for his antics and I think it rubbed a lot of people, especially in the league FO, the wrong way. I believe it affected the team, especially in regards to the outcome of SB50. The league didn't want Cam as the face of the NFL.

    • Basically agree.  He is the one of that bunch that offers upgraded pass catching along with he is supposed to be kind of special.   Then you have the OL and the ideas that if they perform you can have JAG backs and still do well. So okay we could be fine.  But Brooks is important and to me that receiving element sets him apart.  So there sure is something riding on him.     What strikes me as incongruent is people over in Atlanta or those that follow them look at Penix with a third surgery and act like it is no big deal.      And we are on pins and needles over Brooks.  Either they should worry a lot more or we should worry a lot less.
    • I usually go a game or two optimist over the consensus here but this is too early for me to say. I need to see some players on the field.  I am not feeling real optimistic though.
    • Okay as a ‘take CJ’ fan I actually don’t obsess over CJ and Houston, contrary to the narrative.  But I thought I picked up some noise that his OL left a lot to be desired.    Not a single Beyce supporter would judge him harshly if he had a crappy OL. We all know that.    So be fair about it.  A QB needs to be protected.  Especially a guy that gets to his spot and wants to finish the play from there. Which CJ is.
