24-hour CBA extension confirmed

One thing that I read several times today is that the NFL is bringing financials to the table. Not being able to see them was a big arguing point the NFLPA had.

Even though I don't think they should require it as part of these negotiations, if the NFL is capitulating, maybe some progress is being made.

You mean the owners are bringing financials? The NFL financials have little to do with the CBA and the NFLPA has access to the NFL financials anytime they want.

The owners maybe capitulating, the NFL has nothing to give in to or demand- they're the bystander in this fight.

Maybe the extension is to give the players time to find another union chief and kick DeMaurice Smith's ass to the curb.

It's my understanding that the League Corporation, and the Owners are on the same side in this.

But yeah, I meant NFL owners.

The NFLN Legal analyst says he can't see a deal done till decertification happens and or a lockout and both parties lose money. Who knows.

As for as that prick D smith, he got the job saying he wasn't going to buddy with the NFL or any owners he was going to fight them essentially. Mort brings up the point upshaw could at any time call just about any owner and just talk. With upshaw there was mostly labor peace.

I think the best thing is for the union to punt kick smith and get a guy that isn't going in there just to be an ass and try to bully.

The government involvement - or the threat of it increasing - is probably helping nudge the league in the right direction.

There are few things the NFL fears, but of the monsters hiding under their bed, government involvement is probably the scariest.

It's the threat of going to court and antitrust litigation that's causing any movement. The union has only that card to play and they rightfully played it. They have absolutely no other leverage with owners than to threaten to use the courts. The NFL made it clear they weren't going to negotiate in any meaningful sense.

    • The teams this 2nd year player (can’t really blame the years before he was drafted on him) was playing were going 100% as most do most weeks in the NFL. The whole argument is about his play during that period and how well was he actually playing. I’m with you on the winning though. Just start winning and fans will get excited. Start getting in the playoffs and winning and we won’t care how his PFF or box score stats look. 200 yards a game to 400 yards a game, start scoring and winning playoffs games and 99% of fans will buy in.
    • Yeah, we are gonna be raw.  Wonnum, for the past 3 years, has been averaging 8 sacks a season (4 in one season when he missed half a season).  I am OK, but yes, they will be thrown to the fire.
    • I like this because it means one or both of the rookies will be thrust into a bigger role right away and we can see what they might be. I don't like this because it just makes our team that much younger and inexperienced.  You need vets to help the young guys learn, I just hope we aren't going too far in the opposite direction.  All our FA signings were guys just coming off their rookie deals too, I get why we're doing it, but having the savvy vets help in other ways too.
