Cam Newton’s less-than-perfect Pro Day raises another red flag

Don't sweat the report. We have already been educated by Scott and TRD that workouts mean nothing. Neither do college statistics, won/loss records, post-season awards, or national championships.

As a matter of fact, it probably doesn't even matter if you played college ball before, as long as you have the tools!

Who the *** are you and if you think any of those things matter, may I direct you to the thread where we listed guys you've never even heard of that went undefeated, won the heisman, had post season awards, better stats than Cam and national championships.

These guys come along every year. What you see with Cam isn't his college stuff that's impressive, it's his physical ability. Colt Brennan has a better college resume than Cam and he did it for longer, why didn't he go #1?

Go play in traffic.

Just having a bit of fun; isn't that why we're all here? Things go to h*ll when we start taking ourselves too seriously.

Edit: And oh yeah, I really could care less about getting neg repped. When the Huddle starts giving out cash awards for high rep, I will work harder to earn approval.

I think this guy is being overly negative. Cam threw into strong wind for starters. I just like the fact that he improved, surely that's what we should be looking for here, we know he's an athlete with a big arm.

Meh... I don't give a crap about his workouts or his combine. I watched him play most of the year. He has all the tools and the intangibles that we know about are good IMO. He didn't get in half as much trouble as I did as a kid and I turned out pretty damn good. He has good leadership, work ethic (rumored but believable) and he is a winner. (something I hold in high regard. He never quit when everything was against him and I rooted for him in college.

That being said; my concerns are the questions that I can't really get answers to. How smart is he. How quickly does he learn? In other words I would have to be in an interview with him and see him work the white board before I could advocate him. The system he ran in college simply does not properly display these attributes, so I can't see it in film. This all applies equally to Gabbert. For the same reasons.

These are all things that everyone sang about regarding Luck and that's what sold me on him. It bothers me that it is just kinda excluded from most of Cam's reports or I get completely conflicting reports. This is why I will just live with the decision that our FO makes. I know that they were in those meetings and saw the things I did not.

    • Lil Stanky 100% in the dot tonight... And our 2nd line has been our best offensive line this season. Maybe our 2C really was on the roster this whole time...?
    • That’s a grade I kind of expected tbh. I’m not a huge fan of NS, but he’s not as bad as what the huddle says he is minus the horrible game he had vs the Rams. I’ve always thought he’s often used as a scapegoat. The improved pass rush should hide his deficiencies a little bit better if he’s the game one starter. FS might have to be a position we punt on this year unless Thieneman falls to us at 19. The reality is, you're going to have a few average players in certain spots for a team with as many holes we had before free agency started. You can’t sign everyone.
    • I am by no means trying to say he's a world beater. I'm saying it's trending in the right direction. Especially when measured against himself.i think the team feel the same way or else they wouldn't have picked up his option. Plus I think there is a new idea in the NFL about these young QBs. Teams give up to soon. Browns gave up to soon on baker same with the jets on Geno and darnold. Maybe they are who you thought they were in the draft process and they need more time to develop than you originally planned. Either way. I do think he is as capable as darnold is as far as you can win a championship with him. And something he does have that darnold doesn't is he is clutch.  If I need one more drive and 2 mins to go I'm betting on Bryce and I am far from a homer, just going off his game winning drives. He has that dog in him on the last drive.
