Lets say we trade with Cinci....

If we trade for Palmer we can compete for the NFC South crown next year

I think so. People think Palmer sucks. He had a bad year--I agree. He made the pro bowl. His skills did not evaporate--He is 31. The two worst situations for a QB to be in 201o had to be the two Queen Cities.

The defense is 2-3 players from being better than good. The offense is maturing and healing.

We get better than last season just by healing and gaining experience. Regardless of who the QB is, we will be better in 2011. I don't think people on this board realize just how bad things were last season. Aside from many devastating injuries, we cut starters and played rookies before they were ready. If the staff cared about 2011, then great. They knew Clausen and Edwards and Norwood and Pike were not helping them win in 2010. Why coach them up?

Palmer did have his worst year ever last year, but still managed 26 TD passes in the AFCN. If we do trade for Palmer/McNabb/Kolb/etc. we would definitely be positioning ourselves to get Barkley either in 2012 or 2013 but I'm thinking way too far ahead. :cornut:

Lets play a hypothetical.

Lets say we trade with Cinci in exchange for Carson Palmer, their first, and their second. They in turn select Cam Newton first overall. Denver takes Dareus. Buffalo takes Peterson.

Who do you take? AJ Green?

Probably Nick Fairley.

My feelings about receiver with the top pick are the same as they are about QB (don't need more youth).

I have to agree it will more then likely be Fairley. I assume Dareus to be gone by number 4.I also have a feeling Patrick Peterson will be here also. And plus if we trade down i really doubt we will take a QB in the draft. Because with the Rookie wage scale we will be in the right position to take who ever we want. And not have to spend big money.

That's only if you believe in armanti to become a solid NFL caliber receiver. Which I don't. You need 3 receivers and Smitty will probably only be around for 2-4 more years. Why not go ahead and solidify your wr corps for the long term with one of the best receiving prospects since Calvin and Randy?

I dont think we take Green even if hes the best one on the board. I think you have to trust in the recievers you have after drafting 3 last year. Time to focus on another position

harsh reality

    • Some people will shift the goal posts but he does still have to consistently help the team win, eventually. Not only help but be the reason. That's what franchise QB's do.
    • One of the Carolina Panthers' newest defenders thinks their pass rush can go from worst to first. ESPN's David Newton recently chatted with outside linebacker Pat Jones II, who signed with the Panthers as a free agent earlier this offseason. Jones comes over from an awfully impressive Minnesota Vikings defense—one that ranked first in takeaways (33), fourth in sacks (49) and second in QB pressure rate (44.4 percent) this past season. And despite a historically-bad campaign by Carolina's defense in 2024, the 26-year-old seems to believe his new unit can be similar—or even better—than his last. "I definitely think we could do something similar, if not better," Jones said, via Newton. "I've seen it before, so I know what it looks like. I look around the building and see we have exactly what it takes to do that." https://pantherswire.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/panthers/2025/05/24/panthers-pat-jones-vikings-espn/83840667007/?taid=683219b347846900018fa10a&utm_campaign=trueanthem&utm_medium=trueanthem&utm_source=twitter     It's the offseason.  Let hope spring eternal. (actually, I think we are much closer than this board thinks)
    • 5 total TDs against the Falcons was pretty good efficiency and he showed that ability to go off scripts and get 2 of those TDs rushing.  How many times did he deliver big time throws against pressure.  I agree we need to see this offense operate at high efficiency which starts with Bryce. When he does I hope the goals posts won’t shift to some other stat like QB sneaks lol
