This. I do not want to hear people during the 2012-2013 season talking about how we should tank it so we can draft Luck #1 overall. If his reason for not declaring was because he liked school what makes you think he will even declare next year unless all of a sudden he decided he doesn't like college anymore.

What about the 2011 season, shouldn't we address that one first?

It won't come to this, but if it did, we'd be stupid not to take Newton and trade the '12 pick for a TON of other picks. If I knew for a fact we'd have the 1st pick next year I'd say wait and draft Luck, but let's not forget that Luck isn't even guaranteed to come out next year either. He is only going to be a redshirt junior this season.

All speculation, though. No point in arguing something that has almost zero chance of happening.

We have a winner!!! If (and it is still a big if) we take Cam we will actually get tons of extra picks for trading next year.

The main thing I hope we would never do is let who may or may not be in next year's draft dictate who we take in this year's draft. Most good teams never do this. Guys get hurt, go back to school, have a "Locker" year, etc.

It is stupid beyond reason to worry about next years draft in this draft.

I can tell you one guy who hopes we don't get Luck, Ron Rivera (assuming there is football next season). He certainly isn't coaching for last place

He could hope every other team has a QB and Luck falls to us ;)

Yes. Hopefully he is a good enough coach that A LOT of teams have good QBs ahead of us. Like every franchise QB in the NFL gets hurt and therefore they have terrible seasons but their QBs are coming back.

Um. I don't understand why people would think Luck would stay in school for another year due to academic reasons. Last I recalled a Redshirt Junior means they're academically a Senior. Thus, at the conclusion of the season, they'd graduate. If he stays in school, it probably wouldn't be for academic reasons if he just wanted his degree.

Another thing.. He's gonna have a different coach this season. If he can play at a high level with a new coach, you gotta take him. and/or want him.

if there is no football in 2011 we don't have the first pick, there was a thread about this yesterday.

Alshon Jeffery if we draft a QB

Luck/Landry Jones/Kirck Cousins/Matt Barkley if we don't.

Newton > every QB on that list but Luck...
