NFL to judge: Don't unseal information in TV contract case

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- The NFL has asked the federal judge who ruled in favor of the NFL Players' Association on a TV revenue dispute to deny the union's request to release information from the case that the league wants kept confidential.

The league filed its response Wednesday, including redacted versions of exhibits cited in Doty's decision totaling more than 800 pages. Much of the information was blacked out to protect information the NFL considers commercially sensitive.

Two weeks ago, U.S. District Court Judge David Doty ruled - rejecting a special master's previous decision - that the NFL illegally secured $4 billion from TV contracts for 2011, money the players contend was arranged to fund a lockout.

A week ago, the union requested that all exhibits, testimony and transcripts be unsealed.

League lawyers, however, argue that the court's previous denial of a local newspaper's request to unseal all the documents should apply to the union's request as well to satisfy the public's right to know and to provide context that "will be the basis for rulings to come."

The NFL's argument cited Doty's suggestion in court to Paul Hannah, an attorney representing the St. Paul Pioneer Press and Star Tribune of Minneapolis in the Feb. 24 hearing, that the papers "try to focus on what it is that they are looking for" rather than making a sweeping request for all the information.

Conservative white trash redneck: Buh, buh, buh, them there owwners are just good ole boys showing them players who the boss is. I love it, I reckon they should keep it up and keep them in their place.

Congrats! the most ignorant comment of the year!

This isn't a divorce where all monies are forced to be brought to the table for proper division.

This is a business and the players really have no right/basis to know what owners make/lose. You negotiate a contract. Your contract. As much as I feel the owners are being pricks...and especially JR (just check my statements on that a-hole), you'll see I have no love lost for them. But in negotiations like this, there's really no basis/right to anyone knowing the books.

    • You honestly think Tampa would have traded down with a division rival so their rival could land a “generational player” at a massive position of need for TB?   bruh
    • Ya'll better quit throwing shots at Zod. He'll come in here and ban everybody. I had a friend @prosource who was banned in 2015 because he said some very minor things about Zod being an ass to the posters on the main forum after starting the All-Pro one. He said he felt like another level is cool, but don't punch down on people that don't want All-Pro. (He did say that it wasn't going to last long anyways.🤔) I distinctly remember him calling and being like "dude, I got banned, my profile says I don't have access to the Huddle!") I feel like once Tepper came in and cut off all unofficial access to the team, Zod was going to be around less. The All-Pro board had really good photos, even in game stuff, and I remember seeing him behind a little fenced in area at Wofford for non team sanctioned press/photographers after Tepper bought the team. I knew then his ego wouldn't allow him to continue with past fervency and effort with that reduction in access. Dude was literally in the locker room when JR was owner.  I came over in 2011 immediately after finding out this place existed. I was super involved with the Charlotte forum, and fell off after its demise. I will never forget arguing Pep over Ryan Sims on that forum! Who is Ryan Sims some of you may ask? My answer is exactly!
    • And not see him running free. Because has been free a lot more than he gets credit for.    Now what XL does with that when he does see the ball, is on him.
