If you knew Newton would hit his upside

Apparently front offices and GMs think so since he/will be a top ten pick if he isn't number one overall.

But those guys are fugging idiots that just bought the hype

Sure it can be taught but that doesn't mean that every QB you teach is going to grasp the teachings and practice what they were taught. Leaf could have been taught, Russell could have been taught, Leinart, Young etc etc....those were all can't miss guys to. I'm not saying Luck is destined to be a hall of famer, I just know I would pick him over Cam every single time because the chances of him succeeding with what he's already shown are much, much higher....

I don't disagree with you on that. I is the perception than I am just a blind Cam Hugger but if Luck came out I would have been on his nuts just as hard (wonder if that sounded as ghey as I think it did when I typed it).

I had Luck over Newton. But I was also high on Newton early on as well.

I would much rather have Peterson, Green or Dareus over Newton but I've pretty much accepted that Newton's going to be the pick barring anyone coming at us with a pretty sexy trade offer. That's fine I hope he's as good as the Auburn fans who post on the Observer comments section promise he will be. I will have no problem rooting for Cam in the Fall, I just hope that I will be rooting for him longer then one terrible season.....

I'd take luck in a new York minute. But who's to say what each prospect is going to be. If you Asked me the same question this time last year and locker had declared I would have said he would be great. Now that I think about it locker has great upside and is a bigger ht or miss prospect than newton. No I don't think he has as mch upside as newton but he could become a decent to good quarterback.

I think Locker could be a great QB if he's given time to learn. He's only played in the modified pro style offense for two years under Sark, and has missed some time due to injuries. If he sits for a few years before being thrown into the fire I think he could surprise a lot of people, Seattle would be a perfect destination for him where he could learn behind Hasselbeck/Whitehurst.....

I would not at all be surprised of Locker turns into the next 'Rodgers.' But it's going to take a ton of time.

Rodgers is actually the closest NFL QB I can see a comparison to. He's a lot more gifted athletically then Rodgers but they're very similar. For Locker's sake I hope he has a solidified starter to sit behind for 3-4 years to learn the game from. If we had our second I would almost say we should grab Peterson, Green or Dareus in the first and then get McNabb when he is inevitably released then come back and draft Locker in the second round and groom him to take over for McRibb in 3 years or so....

when i think of Cam i think of the potential Randal Cunningham had to be a dual threat QB but was trained to be a Run first QB by Buddy Ryan..if he can actually get some good teaching on scrambling to make a pass instead of a run..then he could top Fran Tarkenton as the best mobile QB that ever was. But it's going to be up to him and the coaches, and durability to make something like that happen. If he does, defenses are going to be so po'd trying to sack the guy they would have wished we drafted the statue that is Mallet.

If I knew BOTH we're going to hit their upside, then I'd prefer Luck easily. But to know for sure 100% that Cam was going to hit his upside, compared to not knowing with Luck, I'd say Newton, just because I'd be 100% sure we'd have an elite QB.

I don't think Mcnabb would have a problem picking up a new offense. I think McNabb had a lot to do with Vick's success

Did you watch him in Washington last year?

And it's not just McNabb. I couldn't name a single guy that's gone from a West Coast system to a more conventional offense and succeeded. I can name you some that failed, though.

(Jeff Garcia and A J Feeley are prime examples)

We just lined up an entire offensive staff that's All-Coryell, all the time. If we pick up a vet QB, it needs to be a guy with experience in that system.

I think we'd be fine with Matt Moore as the stop-gap for Cam, assuming he's healthy by camp - whenever that is. We don't need to invest any real cap space into a vet QB to play one year. I'd rather start Clausen or Moore and see if they're any better in Chud's scheme (can't be any worse than Davidson's) than sign an old ass man.

The only real benefit to signing a vet would be to give Cam a mentor. I've said it before, but I REALLY like Jake for this role. Sign him as our #4 QB just for that role, assuming he's cut from Cleveland. It'd be well worth the extra roster spot to give Cam a quality mentor like Jake, as well as a guy who is well-liked and respected by most of the locker room already.
