If this is true, he must've never been 90% to be the pick. I'm sorry, but if one bad visit can completely screw up his chances, he either must've REALLY f**ked up BAD or was never the favorite to begin with. We were "in love" with him for the past several weeks at least and he comes in for one visit/workout/interview and all of a sudden is off our board? Something doesn't quite add up there one way or the other.

It'll be interesting to see if anyone in the media picks up on this if it's true. I would imagine we can expect to hear it relatively soon if that's the case.

or maybe "favorite" never meant "nobody else is even close" and meant "one little thing could swing everything." You can be 90% sure that you're going to take a guy and have him screw up and have that certainty disappear completely to being unsure who you will pick, or even turn you against the guy. One interview can change everything. How a guy deals with his playbook/whiteboard test was probably just as big as the interviews.

but it is more likely that no decision has really been made either way and he's still in the running.

If he was not impressive in his workouts, then why do they keep meeting him?

this is all recent stuff. it is only really this week we've had reports about JR and about the Panthers not being as high on him as it initially seemed. Interestingly, the report by CBS that JR wasn't sold on Cam came late in the day of his interview with the Panthers. Personally I think he's still in the running, but I never believed he was a lock for the #1 last month like some have thought.

Until Hurney comes out and talks about paring down his 7 prospects, or starts talking down the possibility of selecting a QB, I am not putting a lot of stock in the rumors, pro or con.

A couple of weeks ago, everyone had us taking Gabbert. Late last week and early this week, everyone was on the Cam train. The trending selection now seems to be Green.

As Hurney stated, the speculation is great because it keeps excitement in the fan base. Everyone just needs to remember it is no more than speculation.

As much as I really want Cam, I'd be good with Green as well. Still, as many times as we've worked him out and interviewed him, it does seem rather odd that this one visit would negate all of those. If true, he must've REALLY done badly with J.R. or something.

When has Verge given us anything of any credibility that has come true? Firstly, I am pro-Gabbert, and this news is great to hear, so I would love to believe it.. however, I did not believe him a week ago, and I don't believe him now. I have always believed Cam was a huge smokescreen. My belief is, the reason we chose Cam to use the smokescreen is because we actually want Gabbert. If we are not able to trade down, we will be forced to take Gabbert at #1.. thus Hurney fails to recoup his 2nd round pick.

So my friend that works within the organization who told me Cam Newton would be the pick is singing a different tune. Apparently the word around the Panthers organization is that Cam was not impressive in his interviews/workouts, and the Panthers will not draft him.

Now he says this is not direct information as he had almost nothing to do with Cam's interviews and what not (Only three people did I assume), but the word circulating around is that Cam will not be the pick.

Again, take it for what it is worth.

i'm sry but i think the source here is full of it...i don't think he has any idea what the panthers are thinking...i don't think he knows if cam is or isn't in the lead right now...the only people i think know anything about who we really like are richardson, hurney, rivera, chudzinski, and mcdermott...so unless that source is one of those 5 i call BS

and by no means am i calling the OP a liar...he may very well have a source but that source thinks he knows more than he actually does
