I think you can drive yourself crazy (and waste allot of time in the process) trying to read between the lines of what they say in these interviews... when you step back most of it is pretty generic stuff that doesn't suggest anything in particular except they want to draft guys that can help us win.

We're just gonna have to wait until 4/28 to see what happens...

Exactly what I have been saying.

The people that really want Cam will read that into every statement.

The people who don't want Cam or Gabbert will read that into every statement.

Hurney/Rivera have said nothing about nothing.

rivera and hurney continue to say they have to draft the player who will have biggest impact on the team at their position...in less these 2 are idiots i would think that is a QB, not a DT or CB

Oh the irony....the sweet sweet irony

But you can certainly see the results when we do take a risk in the earlier rounds. I'm trying to think of one that worked out...

Otah, the skill and ability is there, no one could predict that he'd have bones made of glass and the slightest touch would shatter him. To a lesser extent I think of him as the Olines version of Dan Morgan. When he's healthy, he's an absolute beast, it's just hard keeping him healthy.

Brown is a solid rotation player.

Edwards is a mystery right now, we only saw him in a handful of plays. If a miracle happens and he does turn into Steve Smith v2.0 then he'd have been well worth the price, and then some. We have to see more of the kid before really judging him one way or the other.

no matter how they say it, the choices are obvious...

offense = cam newton

defense = marcell dareus

Rivera talks about Newton: "He loves him! We must be getting Cam!"

Rivera doesn't talk about Newton: "He's holding back! We must be getting Cam!"

Seriously guys :nonod:

Pot calling the kettle black. This goes both ways.

yeah, I'm still hoping all three work out. I think they have the potential if they work hard enough. however, Otah was the only one that made an impact his first year.

Yeah, we haven't taken any "risks" for a while in the draft

(Edwards), (Otah), (Brown)...

The draft is a game of risk, in varying degrees... Otah has been a good pick when healthy and it's still too early to give up on Brown or Edwards.

"Look at what your biggest need, do they fit that need, and do they fit the team need?"

Also, when Marty and Ron both talk about draft prospects, they always mention Patrick Peterson and Marcel Dareus specifically. Never Cam. Makes me think they are holding Cam under the radar, but who knows.

I'm excited about Ron as the new coach.

Thought RR's phrase is "the process"...lol

    • Today, we are all Kucci... I miss our feral Russian attack goalie!
    • That was a good segment. Watched every minute of it and would highly recommend it to all fans.
    • "So much of what the Panthers are going to do next week isn't dictated by their preference, but by what happens above them. That's another benefit of not getting locked into need. For instance, if you're thinking you want a receiver, seeing five or six of them go off the board and reacting by taking the sixth or seventh off your list instead of the first (or second or third) something else isn't necessarily wise." https://www.panthers.com/news/ask-the-old-guy-back-into-the-weeds-of-the-nfl-draft-bryce-young-charlotte-hornets-mock-draft This is what some don't seem to get, I don't care how many times it is said: You're NOT going to draft an inferior person at one position, just because that position is perceived as, or is in fact, a bigger need. That would basically nullify, or at least lessen, the reason why you set yourself up via free agency to be able to take the BPA/BAP on the board in the first place.  Yes, the process is complex, very much involved and ongoing, but the overall philosophy is not rocket science. You set yourself up in order not to be pigeonholed into taking a lower graded player at the expense of a higher graded one. This is why Morgan, Gantt and countless of others say the same thing. This is why it's just nonsensical to set yourself in a position where you don't have to, but then act like you have to come hell or high water: "Oh, we have to draft [whatever position], and we can't draft [this position]."  I'm good with whatever they do, until proven otherwise, but even then, you have to be mature enough to know that drafting is an imperfect exercise, filled with hits and misses. And, you generally don't know if you've hit, and especially missed, right away. Moreover, like I've said before, sometimes two players--different positions or not--can both be hits on their respective teams, so in that sense, it's not purely about a right or wrong pick as much as it's about putting puzzle pieces together at the time the best way that you know how.  At the end of the day, people are going to believe what they want to believe, but one thing that's true is that what the Panthers do regarding the draft is dependent upon what others do, and what others do can and does change things. That being the case, it's just another reason why you can't go in with tunnel vision. The thought of doing that is preposterous.
