Maybe its best to Trade down.?

I know i am a quaterback supporter on this board and just been real you are not going to be a good team unless you have a good quarterback. I been running thoughts and even concerns back through my mind everyday on what the panthers should do. I like Cam Newton and there is alot of others who do and if you think that person can be a potential franchise quarterback you shouldnt pass on them. But is this the right thing for the panthers to do right now? Should we just trade down and pick up a second round pick and draft a Quarterback in the second round maybe Mallett or Locker and in the first draft a Wide Reciever or maybe a DT. And if it dont work next year use the first to trade up and maybe get luck. Even though whoever that has the first pick will probably get him. Just something to think about it might even open our eyes about what might be best.?

Why would we trade down for a mediocre QB when we could possibly have a QB that could make things happen.

Just the added dimension that his feet bring is worth bring him in. Michael Vick was a terrible passer coming out of college. Far worse then Newton is. But he was able to make things happen because of his mobility.

Newton is a better passer, bigger, stronger and possible faster then Michael Vick. Add him to our running game and Steve Smith and there good young WR we have. This offense could go from the bottom of the barrel to the top.

Trading down is a safe way out but I wouldn't do it for two #1. Newton is going to be special. Watch and See

Marty Hurney: 44% of QBs picked first overall since 1998 became consistent starters in the NFL.

Picking a QB first overall is not a crap shoot; craps has better odds.

Nobody Knows if Cam Newton will succeed or fail at the next level. According to the odds, he will not. Acquiring picks may be the smarter thing. Nobody know.

You think we can make DWill happy if we put him behind center. At least he has good feet.

If we were to trade down. I think we should watch the Bengals and the cardinals. They are the clear best trade partners. But its going to be some point when Rivera thinks and Hurney think that we might have to pull the trigger on Cam Newton. I think April 28 and when the Panthers are on the clock they will get some trade offers. But they might just pass them up to take a very needed quarterback. Who can be a really, really good player in the NFL.

Trade down, (barring the lockout) and having to sit through another poo-filled season, just to aim and potentially miss on a QB that could just as easily bomb as much as any QB in this draft?

How far are you people really wanting to set back this franchise?

Newton all the way. The kid is looking better and better the closer to draft day it gets.

Trading down will get us more high quality players, but the panthers just need a damn quarterback that can play to bring this team together.

The panthers have a ton of talent. Offensively we have great weapons, we signed a proven game changing TE in Shockey, we have DWill and JStew running the hell out of the ball, and Steve Smith can still make things happen with young recievers getting better (dont forget about AE).

The defense played decently last year. Sure the defensive line needs some depth, and maybe a stud corner / safety. But honestly, that can wait. With some FA work and continued coaching, along with the hope of our offense picking up the pace, the defense WILL play better next season.

Trading down is an option, but better to solidify our talents on offense with Newton.
