Green Could also be the 1 pick

The Denver Post's Mike Klis is "hearing" that Georgia WR A.J. Green has joined Cam Newton as a candidate to go No. 1 overall to the Panthers.

Carolina has already been reported as "enamored" with Green, so this hardly comes as shocking news. On the other hand, the Denver Post acknowledges that the Panthers' actions indicate they have "created the most expensive, time-consuming smoke screen in recent draft history" if Newton isn't the pick.

Green would be a good pick.

Would help improve our last ranked offense, and is the most talented, sure-fire player in this draft.

Can't go wrong with picking him. I also think we like him more than people think.

Picture this scenario:

There is no sure-fire number one in this year's draft-it hasn't been this way for any draft in recent memory. So, Hurney/Rivera cook up a cocka-mamey scheme to make Buffalo or some other gullible team think we are determined to take Newton to fix the QB situation, in an effort to convince the other team to trade up and get him. To do this, they really have to put up a great smokescreen, kinda like what was mentioned in the article (considering, as previously stated, there is no sure fire number one in this draft). We pull off the trade and we move back a couple spots, get Green, and a 2nd back. Win/Win. If we get stuck at 1, however, the FO comes into the tough decision of taking either Newton or Green, both of which they like.

I think it's a more likely scenario than plenty a Cam hugger would care to admit.

    • He has attempted 8 shootout goals in his NHL career and made 1. He is among our worst SO guys on the entire roster in terms of career stats.
    • Against Miami, the Panthers were behind by 17 in the 2nd quarter facing a 4th - 5. Young completed a 21 yard pass and they went on to score 7 on that drive. Then in the 4th, down by 4, they faced a 4th - 5 and again, he completed a 17 yard pass and they went onto score a TD for the win. He also accounted for 2 of the 3 TD's.  As I said, he got them in that mess and no doubt, Rico gets credit as well, but missing on either of those 4th down conversions hands the ball over and results in 1 or 2 less TD's giving them a loss. As you said though, that's just a small quibble. The real question is how does the FO see it?  I am guessing they see it as something to build on. I think most peope here see it as a total loss and fully expect the FO to see it that way as well. Time will tell.
    • Kochetkov is just too streaky. TBD if Freddie is doing that too. Freddie is the more reliable goalie over his career. The Bussi kid looks like he could be a solid #2 eventually.  Just need to figure out the #1 guy. Same as almost every year. It's not talent, it's consistency and being able to step up in the playoffs.
