I think you still have to tag Peppers. Trade him for the draft picks and continue to try to sign Jordan Gross. Let Gross go shop himself around a little. If he wants to be here as he has stated, then we still would have a shot at him. If you don't tag Peppers, we take a huge step back in the progression of the team.

Jordan is good, but I think the team can be successful without him. I honestly believe that the only reason he and Peppers were voted into the Pro Bowl is because they were FAs at the end of the season. The Fans certainly didn't vote those two in. It was the Player's and Coach's votes that got them into the game. It's just good business. Pro Bowl players have additional ammo for higher salaries which makes them harder to resign.

However, if it is looking like they won't get it done and he will hit the market, I think you have to tag Gross. You can't let two all-pros walk, one scot free. You have to make sure you keep at least one.

Think about it, realistically, what's the best package we could get for Peppers? Nobody gives up 2 firsts (don't say it), so the best we could hope for is a 1st and 2nd or a 1st and two 3rd's like Allen fetched. Well, unless it's a high 1st, the chances of getting a similar talent to Gross is unlikely. And any second or third round picks will be nice, but again, won't provide equal compensation for losing Gross. In other words, in balancing the ledger, Gross is more valuable than whatever we would likely get for Peppers, giving us a net loss if we lose both Peppers and Gross.

Tag Peppers and get what we can. That pretty much should be the plan.

I agree Otah will be fine at LT.

Even if we don't get the deal done with J. Gross by tomorrow we still have until the 27th to get that deal done. God Forbid we lose him but we will survive. I don't think our OL coach gets much credit but he has done a great job with our depth. We have more options if we lose him than if we let Peppers go without any compensation.

I would like to see us keep Frank O. too.

We have always done pretty well in the 1st day of the draft. (excluding Shelton) We have already offered J. Gross top dollar to stay. If he hasn't signed by then he really doesn't want to be here. I believe our depth at OL is far better than our depth at DL. If we tag Gross, he'll stay reluctantly. If we tag Peppers we all know it is for a trade and you can bet there is someone out there ready to take him. We take that pick and get a Solid Corner and with our second get a OL to add to our stable. With our 3rd and their 3rd (considering your 1st and 2 - 3rd scenerio) add a QB and WR.

Jordan is widely considered one of the best offensive lineman in the league. Letting him go would take our running game down a notch, and as that is our most important offensive aspect, I don't that its a great idea to allow him to shop the market just in case he changes his mind. And I'm not really sure what you mean about fans not voting them in. Maybe not Jordan, but every fan around the league knows exactly who Julius is, and what he did last year.

Didn't we franchise a punter a few years back. It's not a bad move if you don't have a situation like Carolina.
