What QB would you like to have backup Cam Newton?

Who is under contract for the cheapest and the longest?

So? They just tender him a cheaper contract or let him walk. Moore has little value anywhere else, so I doubt he will walk if we give him some money.

Who did Hurney use a 2nd on last year?

Oh noes! Not a 2nd round pick!

Seriously... if what round someone is picked in makes too valuable to bench, then I'd say Newton would get the start over anyone.

Who will be on the roster this season?

Who knows? If this CBA mess gets straightened out, maybe they'll deal Clausen to a team that has no QB depth for a vet or another draft slot pickup.

The answer to all is Clausen.

No, the answer is you are assuming things and making assertions. I believe Rivera is going to go with facts. Like Clausen stinking it up last year.

If push came to shove, I seriously believe if Moore goes, we will get a vet.

I'm still baffled why people wouldn't PREFER this?

I think everyone would prefer that, I just don't think we are gonna land one of those two. Anyone that comes here has to know that they are only gonna be a 1 year starter at most and will be looked at as more of a tutor than anything else. Mcnabb and Hasselbeck are still gonna want to lead a team.

most likely the case.. if the staff is smart they won't rush Newton onto the field, and I doubt he'll be ready on day 1.

WTH are you talking about?

Why on Earth would we want McNabb or VY anywhere near our locker room?

Neither will accept a backup position at this stage in their careers, unless it's with a Super Bowl Contender.

We want and need a starter as we have 2 bad QBs and a rookie who may need a ton of coaching and development currently on the roster.

VY wins games and nobody really knows the extent of his mental issues.

If he is truly a headcase then fine. If not we would be extremely lucky to land him.

I have no idea if McNabb had anything left. The redskins can do funny things to careers

However the point is that we need a veteran and the list is extremely short

Would be no point to sign VY w/ Cam on the roster although the guy can ball and just wins games regardless of the people that doubt him. McNabb makes a lot of sense but it's probably wishful thinking Moore will more than likely be that "vet" QB on the depth chart.

The original question is who do you want to back up Cam Newton.

IMO Newton should not start, but to be honest I think it foolish to bring in a stop gap in the form of a vet starter. The Vets that you are asking to come in will want to start, why not just let Jimmy start?

He was a 2nd round draft pick thrown into the worst possible position by this team. Let him have a better chance at having an NFL career while Newton rides the pine for one or two seasons and is groomed to be a Pro.

My choice is a vet that knows that he won't start, but has been around the league, and would help with the prep and the swings of being an NFL QB.

Hence me saying Pennington.

I'm not opposed to this idea, and think that is a valid point.. the only real response could be "Clausen sucks and we'll lose games"..

well, expect to lose more games than we win anyhow. seriously, get used to that idea. Throwing Cam in won't help that.

and as bad as Clausen was, to ignore how bad our playcalling was and the entire situation in general is dumb.

hell, everyone does realize he was a rookie last year on top of that right? lol

Clausen could prove adequate and allow us a year to build Cam up, and maybe provide Clausen with a little trade value..

    • Reasonable. I mean I didn’t see a clear path to relief this season myself. As I have typed already, I think the QB FA class is more interesting next season and that draft is supposed to be stacked as well. There just weren’t many options this year.  When you have Tepper to contend with you have to tread lightly around this unless you are 100% certain and willIng to stake your job on it.   There were a couple of outings that helped Bryce a lot in terms of  thinking maybe he can do this, and if you are a supporter you are giving them a lot of weight. You are likely to think just get him some more help and he can do that every week. Which I think Tepper falls into that category.  And the playoffs, division champs, regardless of the way I see that, the supporters will also give that a lot of weight.    And the big one, the atmosphere In BOA for that WC game, Tepper had to be soiling himself over that. If you pulled Bryce out right now you had better be right and your new guy had better make the playoffs and look good doing it or you will be gone and your chance to build your old team back into respectability will be gone too.  So here we have Pickett on a one year deal, and Grier and King. I understand it.
    • Well, seeing as we play the Lions at home this year, pretty sure that rumor isn't true.
    • Totally possible imo, I also caught that snippet from Morgan where he said “If” we sign him. The lack of competition says otherwise tho 🤷‍♂️
