Cam Newton / Steve Smith

I thought Steve Smith said a few years ago that he wanted to be the first Panther in the Hall Of Fame. He bitched last year because of the QB situation. Now we have a " Blue Chip" QB in Cam Newton. Still Steve Smith

wants to leave. Sounds like the same story when Steve Smith and Moose

were broken apart. What could have been will never be !!!!!!!!!!!

Every time I see a post with Steve Smith in the title I feel like I need to run around my office screaming "The sky is falling!"

If he's actually gone then did you really want him here in the fame of mind he must be in to continue to ask to be traded?

Big picture people...

Smitty wants a QB that can throw to him now, no possibly in time. The problem with your scenario is you are assuming Cam will be pan out but even more, be elite and from the sound of your post quite instantly at that, which is cool but Smith won't see it like that he knows better. He knows his chances greatly improve moving on to another team that isn't so young and still learning, whether the fans realize that or not. He can still retire a panther and he will be considered a panther in his HOF status as well IMO, but I can guarantee you smitty wants a ring much more than HOF.

Wait... Steve Smith wants to go somewhere that doesn't have very inexperienced QBs...? Shocking.

Cam Newton is still a rookie. He is also facing the possibility of a significantly shorter off-seaosn than most rookies get, especially considering we can't negotiate a contract with him until the lockout is lifted.

You might struggle to believe this, but Cam Newton is less proven than Matt Moore was going into last season. You might also struggle to believe that some people still aren't convinced about Cam Newton as a QB, Steve Smith might be one of them. You might also struggle to believe that Newton might not actually start from day 1.

Brings a good question to raise...... who is the most likely first HOF Panther?

Technically Reggie White is (he's the only name listed under our team on the players by team list) if you want to be reeeeally literal about it.

In the spirit that the question was asked though this person has not played for us yet IMO. We haven't had any HoF caliber careers going.

    • Looks like we're fifth in running plays/play action plays when in the lead and about 10th in the league when we fall behind.  The biggest thing I take from this is not that we drop off like that, because every team does, but that we drop off so much. A lot of the best teams don't  drop off much, depending on the game situation, preferring to stick to their game plan through out. Some of those are very good teams. Baltimore barely deviates from their run/action heavy plan. At the other end, KC also barely deviates, but they have one of the least run oriented attacks in the league by these stats. On the other side, there are teams that make even bigger shifts (based on last year's performance) and they are teams that for various reasons found themselves in desperation attempts. Dallas, Atlanta, the Browns, Bucs and Bengals were all literally throwing out their game plans and trying to either lean on their top end QB or were just frantically trying to create something downfield. Considering the years of us completely abandoning the run (oh those Matt Rhule days), maybe we are starting to stabilize. Don't even get me started on the Reich days...
    • I am kindof in the camp that its not an addiction for him just a dumb ass kid who didnt think he would get caught.  I think the "addiction" angle was the story they went with in hopes of not being banned for life   But I doubt we show interest as I think he is going to be pricey (Draft capital wise)
    • It shows we like to run the ball but abandon it pretty quickly when we are behind.
