Teams with #1 Picks and their record the next Season

Recommended Posts

Of the Last 10 drafts only 2 teams made the playoffs. Both losing in the 1st rounds. I think of all the teams listed below we have the best lineup to do better than any of them.

2002 Houston Texans David Carr 4-12 1st Season in the league.

2003 Cincinnati Bengals Carson Palmer 8-8 Palmer didn't play that season.

2004 San Diego Chargers Eli Manning... Trade with Giants and received Phillip Rivers and 3rd Round Pick Nate Kaeding.. (1st and another pick in 2005 as well)12-4 Lost in 1st Round

2005 SF 49ers Alex Smith 4-12 Last NFC West

2006 Houston Texans Mario Williams 6-10 Last AFC North

2007 Oakland Raiders JaMarcus PURPLE DRANK Russell. 4-12 Last AFC West J. Russell didn't play until week 16 and started week 17.

2008 Miami Dolphins Jake Long 11-5 1st AFC East Lost 1st Round Playoffs

2009 Detroit Lions Matt Stafford Last NFC North 2-14

2010 St. Louis Rams Sam Bradford 2nd NFC West 7-9 missed playoffs in the last week of the season.

2011 Carolina Panthers Cam Newton ????

I believe with our talent. We could actually surpass Miami and SD and go from worst to deep in the playoffs. I think if we can get through the 1st month of the season. 2-2 or better. We can really surprise alot of people.

Go Panthers

    • What's wrong with Damien Lewis? He played pretty well last year.
    • Official NFL Cuts Tracker Deadline for roster cuts is Tuesday, August 26th. At this moment (Friday, August 22nd) the only interesting names I see are... K Caden Davis (BUF) RB Ameer Abdullah (SF) WR Equanimeous St. Brown (SF) WR Donovan Peoples-Jones (NO) LB Khaleke Hudson (TEN) Abdullah, St. Brown, Peoples-Jones I don't exactly think we should cut anybody for but it was just interesting seeing those names. Khaleke Hudson was on the Panthers' practice squad last year I believe and might have even gotten called up? And of course, Caden Davis just because of the question mark at kicker this season for the team.
    • I'll say 6/10. I don't know that we learned a whole lot about this team during preseason that we didn't already know. We didn't play the starters enough to really get a feel for what to expect. We had one good drive against the Browns, one 3-and-out and two 3-and-outs against the Texans. That's an extremely small sample size across 3 games regardless of performance. My camp/preseason takeaways: Jalen Coker might be the best WR on this team and is certainly no worse than #2. Nic Scourton is going to be a good player for us. Possibly very good. Bobby Brown was our best free agent addition. Jack Plummer isn't an NFL QB. Not even a practice squad guy. Having anyone other than Canales and Evero call plays was a really stupid and pointless idea. Our depth is largely non-existent, especially on defense. The three areas we actually DO have depth are on the OL, in the WR corp. and at RB. I can't fathom why Dan Morgan didn't do more to upgrade ILB during the offseason. We better hope Lathan Ransom steps up at FS because if he doesn't we have a massive hole. For all the hype surrounding Sanders/Evans, Tommy Tremble is still the best TE on the roster. I'm only slightly less enthusiastic going into the regular season than I was a month ago. I think our starters on offense are solid and we should be pretty good there unless Bryce totally regresses. On defense, we're probably bottom 3rd in the league if 100% healthy and significantly worse than that if injuries become an issue. We badly need at least two of our rookies to become high-level players early (ideally one of the pass rushers + Ransom) and at least 2 of our free agent additions (ideally Moehrig + Bobby Brown) to be significant upgrades over last year. Call me pessimistically optimistic 😆
