does Terrelle Pryor as a back-up for Cam Newton make sense?

[EDIT: or at least someone with a similar skill set to cam newton. pryor is just an example.]

I'm thinking it might. now the idea of picking up yet another QB...essentially the 4th drafted in 2 years...does make me scratch my head, but of the guys that are on the roster currently, pryor would be more likely to be able to jump in without changing too much schematically. i thought about this last week sometime and forgot about it until i read a derp article about it today.

excerpt:

Let there be no mistake- Pryor is, at best a poor man's Cam Newton, but as a backup isn't that exactly what you would want? Both players have similar builds (Pryor is 6'6", 233lbs and Newton is 6'6", 248lbs) and have similar skill sets. Both are strong armed, extremely athletic QBs who can use their arms and their legs, furthermore, both were asked to use their legs to make plays and did so effectively. Granted, there are some off field issues for Pryor, but in a draft where we took Cam Newton and Brandon Hogan it seems that playing ability trumps character for this coaching staff who seem ready and willing to help these players mature.
he also made a couple good points about it only costing us a 5th round pick to get first round talent...similar to a move the patriots were praised for in drafting ryan mallet. end game could be similar to what the pats are hoping with mallet, to develop him for a couple years with the intention of trading them away to a QB needy team in a a couple years.

the major draw, though, would be if something happened to newton and he got injured that we could plug in a QB who could jump in without having to change the scheme like we would with clausen or some old vet QB.

of course the question would be what do we do with clausen, but we'll probably be moving him anyway.

just a thought....

I live in Columbus. Have you ever seen Pryor throw the ball? I bet most qualified scouts have. Guy won't ever play QB in the NFL, mark my words.

Now, I would add him in terms of being an athlete. But if he wants to play in the league he's going to have to be willing to play the role of a Brad banks, be a special teams guy. I have peers who know him well--he doesn't have the football IQ for it nor does he have the humility to do the dirty work to go far at the NFL level. He'll get a shot somewhere b/c of athleticism but his thug mentality will have him working at a Citgo Station or in jail like another highly talented Buckeye from a few years back, Maurice Clarett.

I love this world where we will have enough snaps do develop all these quarterbacks. Why would we even be worried about a backup quarterback right now? If Cam gets hurt, we are going to be bad. If Cam stays healthy, we are probably still going to be pretty bad. We don't need some guy to pretend to be Cam Newton for two weeks to keep us in the playoff race.

    • I'm not worked up about this but I had a little beef with his reporting or whatever it is, and can’t remember specifically what it was. A year or so ago maybe. It was something about Wilks or maybe Reich, but I thought the way he presented it was pretty slanted and I disagreed with the facts as he presented them, more or less. I believe it was an audio spot with FNZ. I took note that this guy was maybe all about some kind of agenda to be distorting the reality to make a story more appealing.
    • That’s not funny. That’s people who watched Kenny Pickett play.
    • Rich people who collect Health are indeed a surprising type of leaders. It's so exciting to see it but I have no doubt that this is clear enough. Where can rookies scare up striking Health recipes? I'm working on it at this time. This would be friggin' stupid if it freaked out others. Take this information very seriously. I still hadn't found anyone to tell me with respect to this sticky situation.   https://groups.google.com/g/actiflow-prostate-health/c/3csTfO4T70g https://ocsheriff.dynamics365portals.us/forums/support-forum/5837affc-861d-ef11-a295-001dd804e445 https://bhaprod.dynamics365portals.us/forums/support-forum/6f1364f6-861d-ef11-a295-001dd80948b1 https://groups.google.com/a/chromium.org/g/chromium-reviews/c/k6H8LBL14zY https://groups.google.com/g/synogut-price/c/gk7Vuy_kDR0 https://ocsheriff.dynamics365portals.us/forums/support-forum/590538e2-881d-ef11-a295-001dd804e445 https://bhaprod.dynamics365portals.us/forums/support-forum/387bb1e3-881d-ef11-a295-001dd80948b1 https://groups.google.com/a/chromium.org/g/chromium-reviews/c/lnNwUSvAjwk https://groups.google.com/g/kerassentials-cost/c/5SLLeAVxU74 https://ocsheriff.dynamics365portals.us/forums/support-forum/e1d45d45-8a1d-ef11-a295-001dd804e445 https://bhaprod.dynamics365portals.us/forums/support-forum/a1266d43-8a1d-ef11-a295-001dd80948b1 https://groups.google.com/a/chromium.org/g/chromium-reviews/c/gVH8Ltoz_4Q  https://groups.google.com/g/pineal-guardian-brain-support/c/DRkldCEbe3w https://ocsheriff.dynamics365portals.us/forums/support-forum/e24acabb-7c1d-ef11-a295-001dd804e445 https://bhaprod.dynamics365portals.us/forums/support-forum/cecad6bd-7c1d-ef11-a295-001dd80948b1 https://groups.google.com/a/chromium.org/g/chromium-reviews/c/dnrUDyelUG8 https://groups.google.com/g/gutoptim-review/c/NYvnYEUQV4w https://ocsheriff.dynamics365portals.us/forums/support-forum/09b1fdad-8d1d-ef11-a295-001dd804e445 https://bhaprod.dynamics365portals.us/forums/support-forum/9381c5ae-8d1d-ef11-a295-001dd80948b1 https://groups.google.com/a/chromium.org/g/chromium-reviews/c/_LRPsonxaPk
