I say Sidney Rice also. Guy came into his own with Brett. If i was him and had a choice between Ponder or Cam as his QB of the future i would be in Carolina. Rice, Lefell, Gettis and AE/ Pilares manning the slot and we have a young, big legit WR corp that fits CHUDS offense.

Rice + Mebane is a realistic combo we can get. Rivera will push for a piece to bolster the young d-line.

He will also want a receiver to make Newton look that much better in his rookie season. It is important that you get your no.1 pick right as a rookie head coach and signing Rice would definitely make things easier on Newton. That combo would be nasty for many years.

rice + mebane or cofield + jonathan joseph are all very realistic possibilities. we could probably get around $4-5mil/year deals for each of them, sign core players, get beason a new deal, and still be near the salary cap floor.

Yeah, we would still have plenty of cap. We were one of the cheapest teams in the league last year, and we were paying off Delhomme's bonus.

I think if Smith leaves, we would be the favorite to land Rice. Anyone remember these comments he made:

"I think [Carolina] made the right choice. Cam is a proven winner, and hopefully, he can carry his college success to the NFL. Carolina is definitely headed in the right direction now. They still have a few older faces, like Steve [smith] but he is a free agent...but then again, so am I. Who knows, maybe if they would just settle this lockout, we could start signing with some teams. If they were to release Smith, it may open a nice gap at wide receiver. And who knows, it would be nice to return close to home and play with a QB like Cam."

And either Cofield or Mebane would be great. I think Joseph is less likely, given that he will likely be an RFA, pending the CBA.

    • I wouldn't be opposed to trading for Sanders and seeing if he could be developed here. We have zero plans, and I really don't think it would take Sanders long to produce more than Bryce has. Plus, he's on a 5th round rookie contract and if he became the guy, you instantly have three years to build a core of talent, much of which we already have.  I get flamed for this opinion but it is what it is, and I've been right about these type of things the past three years.  I said Nix would be a good NFL QB. Wanted to keep Darnold and trade down in 2023. Said QB play wasn't the QB's fault under Rhule, but rather the offensive design.  Give me Sanders in the room for a year with Bryce and Dalton, see what he can develop in to on the cheap. There are no really quality QB's coming out this year that aren't Allar or Manning, and Manning may not even be coming out.
    • basically if the panthers trade Thielen they're not trying to win this year. I mean they're not going to regardless but this means its the plan not to.  no team is going into the season in 2025 with 80 career catches between their top 3 healthy WR.  you'd be turning this from a bottom 3rd of the league offense to like the nathan peterman bills pair that with a defense that is most likely going to struggle, and they're looking at 2001 again.
