I saw the Drew Rosenhaus pres conference earlier today where he kind of compared Cam to Pryor. There's a 50/50 chance that Rosenhaus is either on PCP or the best actor in the world. There is a 100% chance that Rosenhaus wrote the OP's article.

I am going to hate myself for saying this, but with the type of offense we are going to be installing around Newton, don't you think it would be a good idea for his back-up to be of a similar stature and playing ability?

No.

A team has packages for all their quarterbacks and a typical system. It is common for example to emphasize some things like rollouts when you have a mobile quarterback that you wouldn't do if for example the back-up is in and he has a different skill set.

How many teams have starters and backups with exactly or similar skill sets??

We will be built around the running game and the defense. No matter who is at quarterback we will counting on them to make some plays not win the game.

I'm just saying, a lot of Pryor's big throws look like the Clausen "loft on up there and let the better athlete adjust to it" plays that he had his last year in Notre Dame. I'm not in a hurry to pick up another player like that.

I think your way off kid. Pryor's arm while it might not be as powerful as newton's, is still very much above average. I think he has pretty big arm while, i haven't seen much velocity on his throw's the kid can throw it a mile. While his accuracy isn't world class i think he did lead the big ten in pass efficency this past season. His completion percentage was in the 60's and not nearly as bad as you make it out to be.

Can he make all the NFL throws..... If clausen was said to be able to i don't see why pryor can't. With that said he is a much bigger project than i think the panthers can take on right now. i'd still keep an eye out for the kid. if he falls to the 6th i'd be all over him.

These two sentiments do not normally party together.

He can lob it far, slow, and inaccurate. It's not a great combination to beat secondaries in this league. Like you said, let somebody else change all of his mechanics and instincts. It's a lot of work to do for a backup right now.

I agree that maybe it shouldn't be us but the work were putting in for pike,could pay off double if it were pryor instead. I would cut pike easily if it ment picking up pryor. his arm is bigger than pike's and he has more upside. If your going to develope a guy he should have the upside to be a starter. not sure pike has that.

Again if clausen can make all the throws with his average arm i don't see why pryor can't.

Pryor will be cut after preseason and will join the CFL

I think Pike gets cut before this season, and if he didn't we wouldn't pour a whole lot into developing him. Third/fourth string guys rarely get enough snaps to become better players and I think this is one of those cases. We will probably sign a vet and go into the season with Newton and Clausen. If you want some backup to blossom into a trade chip, Clausen is probably a better bet anyway.

We have plenty of young quarterback talent to build up. It's time to figure out if the coaches can do anything with it.

I'm amazed at some of the comments on various sites saying that Pryor is a better QB out of college than Newton was. You had many scouts agreeing that Newton was a first round talent, while the same scouts are saying that Pryor is a 4th or 5th rounder in the supplemental draft.

Hell, he isn't even a better leader. Pryor shrank when it came to big games (I mean, just look at him when Wisconsin took the lead in that game), whereas Newton rose to the occasion, week in and week out.

Only a homer, idiot, or hater would think that Pryor is better right now than Newton is. & this is coming from someone who still holds a grudge against Cam for absolutely torching my team last year.
