Why does everyone think matt moore will be back? With cam on the roster, jimmy, and pike? Ron has all but promised to bring in a Vet i don't see any possible way matt moore is on the opening day roster. unless that vet that he promised is a "resigned moore" it just doesn't sound possible.

Pike is likely to be cut.

i wouldn't be considering pike part of the picture unless it's on the practice squad.

not sure why his name ever shows up.

moore could be that vet QB, but i'm hoping we bring in someone with a lot more playing experience than him.

I don't think CJ is worth more than Beason who's been playing his ass off since he got here and has been a great leader.

As other have already said, linebackers get paid less than DEs plain and simple. Patrick Willis is making around 9 million a year so for Beason to be close to that, he will be making top money for a linebacker. The best kicker in the league makes less than an average quarterback. You have to see how Beason stacks up to other linebackers and in that he will be doing fine.

as a huddle we are collectively severely underestimating the desperate need for a second corner, I'm not saying Aso or even Jonathan Joseph, but we are going to have to find someone, Captain is a great nickel, but he got destroyed last year at times

This is what confuses me. If our entire team is about to become UFA's (at least the talented individuals) How do we currently have 70 Million tied up?
because we have most of the roster under contract.

we only have 19 UFAs coming up. that is more than most clubs, but still far from our entire team and aside from a few they are mostly easily replaceable or won't be that big of a deal to re-sign.

here's all the guys I can tell who become UFAs this year.

  1. Matt Moore
  2. Brian St. Pierre
  3. DeAngelo Williams
  4. David Clowney
  5. Jeff King
  6. Dante Rosario
  7. Ryan Kalil
  8. Charles Johnson
  9. Derek Landri
  10. Ed Johnson
  11. Nick Hayden
  12. Thomas Davis
  13. James Anderson
  14. Jamar Williams
  15. Richard Marshall
  16. C.J. Wilson
  17. Gerald Alexander
  18. Marcus Hudson
  19. Rhys Lloyd

Here are the salaries under contract right now. When Smitty cost 7, Gross cost 6, Wharton cost 5.4, Stewart costs 4, Gamble cost 6, Brayton is 3 ( that is 31 thousand between 6 players). Doesn't take much to add up to a bunch.

We have to. Especially with those suspect safeties we have.

Between Hogan, McClain, Pugh, Stanford and Wilson, they might feel they already have the guy on the team. Otherwise there aren't a lot of guys on the free agent list who are much better than Marshall (who we could get without breaking the bank). I wouldn't be surprised if we pick up one or two journeymen corners in the mix and try to find a diamond in the rough. I just really doubt that with a few weeks to sign everyone, that we will be that aggressive at signing that many big name free agents.

    • With the contract money an OT first rounder makes you can ALWAYS get a new girlfriend.  And probably an upgrade at that.  You only got 2 parents.
    • Brother. You are wholly confusing comparing situations and applying actual standards like most other franchises do like simply getting into a playoff series and winning at least 1 or 2 series games with praising. Nobody is praising the Hawks. Nobody is praising the Magic. Nobody here likes those teams. But reality is reality. The Hawks like other franchises have traded players fired coaches etc but they can still win a couple playoff games. How is that not the bare floor for you or anyone else? What are we doing here if it isn't? We've seen eye to eye on many things over the years. But you are in the camp on the Hornets where you are emotionally attached to LaMelo where you feel the need to carry his water like he's got that juice. That's cool that you feel that way. It's your prerogative. But I differ from that viewpoint entirely. If he had that juice we would not have gotten wiped off the court in 2 play in games with 2 different coaching staffs and rosters. if people don't like hearing that well I'm sorry but how the hell is this team ever going to get better and ultimately go anywhere in the postseason if we just blindly pat them on the back for getting their asses whooped before they actually even get into the real playoffs? There seem to be some Bryce Young level standards being applied here. That's wild to me. But to each his own.
    • Proctor/Freeling were always the belles of the ball where we were picking. What those two *could* become at OT was far greater than what others could be at their respective positions and I’m glad our FO could see that.
