Crucial move?

Recommended Posts

Howdy all. Thought I'd drop by and post this little gem. Its lockout filler, but still it made me laugh.

Article on what sub .500 teams need to do in order to reach playoffs.

Carolina Panthers (2-14)

The Panthers picked the most polarizing player in the draft, Cam Newton. Expectations are massive, but Newton’s moxie has led many to believe he is capable. He will be tutored by new head coach Ron Rivera. Carolina’s running game, although it's unknown whether DeAngelo Williams will re-sign, will be the primary focus. Rivera, who engineered the Chargers defense the last three seasons, has the task of rebuilding a team that won two games. It starts with defense. Jon Beason leads a unit that fared pretty well against the pass, but must improve against the run.

Crucial move to make: Re-sign Richard Marshall

I don't think I'd go so far as to describe Richard Marshall as "crucial", especially after talking about the facts that Williams needs a new contract and that the defense needs to improve against the run.

    • If you need someone to run your multi-billion dollar business, maaayyyybe don't hire a guy whose previous work experience includes repeated blows to the head and literal brain damage but IDK.
    • Extrapolate that with every QB for that matter. I guarantee you there's quite a bit of missed opportunities and yards left on the field for everyone. Many NFL QBs deal with WRs not putting in A+ effort, subpar o-line play and other deficiencies. The great ones are able to rise above these issues and create opportunities for plays. Guys like Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes can both play in and out of structure, as well as find ways to get yards when things break down and mask mistakes by throwing guys open, creating opportunities from nothing, etc. Bryce Young has only shown he's able to make things happen when the rest of the team picks up his slack. Very rarely does he create those opportunities himself. When this is a consistent pattern year after year with Bryce where he shows up lackluster, it's a concern. This is year three and he should be elevating the team as a first overall pick this franchise traded up for.  He was far from elevating anyone against JAX. In fact, he needed others to elevate and create for him. Excuses may be fine for a rookie, but this is year three for the first overall pick. Not looking good so far.
    • I think the worst issue is coaching. Countless bad snaps, XL not getting his feet in or trying on runs plays, our centre being down field when he didn't need to be. All seem to be from poor coaching for me. I believe Canales is to soft to rip the players a new one when the fug up. Plus I honestly believe that Canales is slow getting his plays in giving Bryce less time to diagnose and adjust to the defence. Don't worry I could of head butted Bryce for that fumble and the 4th down throw aways but the other plays are explainable to me
