Does everyone realize this? It only appears that way because, instead of sprinkling these big extensions out over the course of 2 or 3 seasons like virtually every other team, we're doing it 2 or 3 days because we hadn't given ANYONE an extension up to this point because of the CBA panic going back a couple years.

We're merely catching up to where we should be. We're still going to have cap space to at least make a run at another big-time free agent if we choose to.

I don't think we need another WR at all, especially with the addition of Olson, but a CB is definitely a need since Hogan isn't even an option at the beginning of the year. I'm sure they recognize this. I'd almost bet someone we sign Cromartie or Rogers today.

Impossible to say without knowing the structure of the contracts we've signed. But we had around $40 million IIRC. You figure:

Johnson: $10 million?

Williams: $8.5?

Beason: stays the same right? His deal was an extension....

Kalil: will probably drop a couple million once we sign him long-term...

Ron Edwards: $3 million?

Anderson: $6 million?

Davis: Unknown...

Olsen: $5-6 million?

Mare: $4 million? It was 4 years/12 million... seems like a lot.

Just wild guesses... no idea actually how all that bonus money works as far as cap figures go. We've got plenty to sign a couple of 'name' FA's and still be in good shape cap-wise, though.

IIRC, $40 million was to hit the cap floor, correct? If so we could have a ton more.

Yeah, some of those numbers area bit of (eg. Anderson is earning a lot less) but it's gnerally accurate. Beason's number would probably have gone up a lil, contracts are still getting bigger every year. If you add up all the numbers you listed, you'll get around 40 mil, meanining we'll be a bit over the floor atm. The difference between the cap and the ceiling is only about 12mil (108 vs 120 iirc). I think we have less than 10mil left atm. Does this even cover all the rookies? If not, I'll say we're pushing the limit. Maybe they can cut Brayton or something to clear up some cap room.

Johnson only counts $6-7M this season the way his contract is structured.

Cap hit takes the base salary for that year and allocates the signing bonus over the entire contract.

Also note that right now only the top 51 salaries count toward the cap and the cap is actually 126 million with the allowable exceptions. By season's start all 56 salaries on the active squad count toward the cap. So we still have flexibility at this point and money to spend to get to the 90 player limit.

      Trade up for a project was dumb, he's gonna be 25 next month. By the time you're deciding on whether he's worth the 5th year option or a big contract you're already gonna be thinking about moving on soon either way.

      I mean this is legit AF statement....you don't spend that draft capital on a project just like you don't trade up for an injured RB either, which was done in the same draft.  That draft IMO was a necessary evil for DM to learn from his mistakes (I think he did but some may not). Also I have to mention I'm a big Coker fan and think getting him as an UDFA was obv a steal.  Coker is the better WR2 at this point as Legette and its not even debatable unfortunately.  Give him year 3 but don't expect much from him.  Continue in the offseason with adding as much talent and competition on the roster as possible including WR.  Or just trade his ass for peanuts and continue to build roster by any means.......

      Losing him was a huge loss. Look at how the Bears went from a 5 win team to now a 11 win team. The Lions offensive line is bad this year, secondary is bad and Campbell going for it on 4th down all the time has cost them games instead of taking the Field Goals. Goff is inconsistent as well.
